When tangled tender lines complicated the boat’s docking, Sandy calmly helped deckhand Joe Bradley through the problem. Leah later said watching Sandy’s patience and compassion in that moment made the proposal especially meaningful.
The docking problem that changed how Leah saw the moment
In the Season 9 finale, Joe Bradley worried that tangled tender lines had disrupted Sandy’s plan. The docking was difficult, with wind, fishing nets and lines adding to the challenge. Rather than let the engagement take priority, Sandy focused on helping Joe work through it.
Leah told Entertainment Weekly that Sandy “just guided him and said, it wasn’t about the engagement.” She added, “She didn’t make him feel stupid, and it was beautiful to witness.” Leah said the way Sandy handled the situation showed her leadership, heart and compassion.
How Sandy planned the proposal
After the boat ride, Sandy proposed to Leah at a beachside cove decorated with flowers. The setup included a small table and three violinists. Sandy said she had shared a written “vision list of love” before getting down on one knee. Leah accepted. Bravo’s account of the engagement also quotes Sandy describing Leah’s reaction: “The look on her face was priceless, and my heart exploded!”

Leah asked Sandy to ask again without cameras
After the filmed proposal, Leah wanted a more private exchange. She recalled seeing Aesha Scott crying and asking, “What is happening?” But the televised moment was not the only one she wanted: Leah asked Sandy to go back down and repeat the proposal away from the cameras, looking her in the eye and explaining why she wanted to marry her.
“I said, can we go back down and I want you to ask me all over again with no cameras, with no one around, and look me in the eye and tell me why you want to marry me,” Leah told Entertainment Weekly. Her request was personal; the interview does not establish that the private repeat was filmed or provide further details about it.

The proposal aired after their engagement announcement
The televised proposal appeared in the Season 9 finale, covered in September 2024. Sandy and Leah had already announced their engagement in September 2023, as E! News reported. The sources do not state the exact date the proposal scene was filmed.
