Which Bleach episode is the 400th?
“BABY,HOLD YOUR HAND” is episode 34 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, the third cour, also known in English-language coverage as The Conflict. TV Tokyo lists its Japanese broadcast date as November 23, 2024. A fan-maintained episode index identifies it as the 400th episode across the Bleach anime; the official episode listings confirm the cour-specific number, but do not themselves label it the franchise-wide 400th.

That distinction matters: episode 34 is the official numbering for this installment within Thousand-Year Blood War, while “400th overall” is a commonly cited count from a secondary index. The original Bleach television anime began in October 2004, and its official introduction describes the run as exceeding 360 episodes without stating an exact original-series total.
Why Mayuri is the episode’s standout
As Kenpachi and Mayuri travel toward Wahr Welt, Pernida blocks their way. Kenpachi attacks head-on but cannot land a decisive blow. Mayuri instead watches, studies the opponent, and analyzes what the battle reveals.

The official synopsis gives the clearest reason to put Mayuri at the center of the episode: as events take unexpected turns, he feels “joy.” That response suits a character whose scientific curiosity can make an opponent’s strange abilities as compelling to him as the fight itself. Calling him “the star” is an interpretation of the episode’s focus, not an official designation.
What happens in “BABY,HOLD YOUR HAND”
The encounter hinges on the contrast between Kenpachi’s direct force and Mayuri’s observation. Kenpachi’s attack does not settle the fight, leaving Mayuri to assess Pernida and the unusual developments around them. The episode’s official summaries emphasize that clash and Mayuri’s reaction rather than presenting the installment as a conventional victory lap for brute strength.
Rank #2
The title is part of the larger Thousand-Year Blood War story, but its immediate dramatic hook is this particular matchup: a seemingly overwhelming opponent, Kenpachi’s failed attempt to end the confrontation quickly, and Mayuri’s interest in understanding what he is seeing.
