Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed as Victor von Doom, better known as Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday. No other villain has been confirmed in the official sources reviewed as of October 8, 2026; the full cast has not yet been announced.
Who is the confirmed villain in Avengers: Doomsday?
Doctor Doom is the confirmed central threat. Disney’s March 2025 cast announcement said Downey would return in a new role as Victor von Doom. Marvel’s July 2026 teaser announcement identifies him as Doctor Doom and presents him as the film’s chief threat.
That confirms Downey’s role, not a complete roster of antagonists. The official materials reviewed do not name a second villain.
Has Marvel confirmed any other villains?
No. The official cast list is an ensemble list, not a villain list, and the film’s published premise describes heroes from three distinct universes on a collision course against an existential threat without identifying another antagonist. Disney’s film page and July 2026 Comic-Con report do not confirm a second villain.

That distinction matters when evaluating names circulating online: being an announced cast member—or a character fans expect to appear—does not establish that person as a villain. Do not treat Wolverine, Spider-Man, or any other unannounced character as confirmed on the basis of speculation.
Why is the full lineup still uncertain?
Co-director Anthony Russo said in a recent interview reported by GamesRadar+ that some cast members had been announced and others had not: “The cast is so large, and we’ve announced some of the cast, and we haven’t announced some of the cast,” (GamesRadar+ report). His comment supports the point that announcements are incomplete; it does not confirm a particular additional character or villain.

What do the released teaser and official cast information show?
Marvel Japan’s July 20, 2026 teaser announcement describes footage of Doctor Doom in a silver mask and green cloak, stopping Thor’s Stormbreaker strike with two fingers. It also describes Mjolnir moving toward Steve Rogers at the end of the teaser. These are details from the released teaser, not a full account of the film’s plot or proof of another villain.
Disney’s current film page lists the announced ensemble, including Downey, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and other performers. That list identifies cast, not character alignments. Disney separately confirmed at Comic-Con that Hayley Atwell will return as Peggy Carter; her inclusion likewise does not establish her as a villain.

When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?
The current release date listed by Disney is December 18, 2026, in theaters. Disney’s July 2026 report gives that date, and Marvel Japan says the United States and Japan open simultaneously on December 18. An earlier March 2025 announcement listed May 1, 2026; that date has been superseded.
