Spoilers for the Season 3 finale of Hannibal. Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter kill Francis Dolarhyde together, then Will pulls Hannibal and himself over a cliff. The episode never shows their bodies or confirms whether either survives. In the post-credits scene, Bedelia du Maurier sits at a table with her own cooked leg on a platter; it hints at more story but does not identify who prepared the meal.
What happens in the final scene?
Will and Hannibal fight Dolarhyde, the Great Red Dragon, and kill him together. They embrace afterward. Will then takes both of them over the cliff. The screen does not show the fall’s impact, their bodies, or what happens next.

So the literal answer to “Did Will and Hannibal die?” is that the series leaves it unconfirmed. The action can be read as Will choosing a shared death, but the episode does not establish either man’s survival or death as fact.
Why does Will pull Hannibal over the cliff?
Showrunner Bryan Fuller framed Will’s decision as the culmination of his struggle over what Hannibal has made him—and what he has discovered in himself. Will has feared that killing Hannibal, or failing to kill him, would mean becoming like him. By the finale, Will recognizes that he enjoyed killing Dolarhyde alongside Hannibal. That recognition makes returning to his former self seem unlikely.
#1 Best Overall
Fuller said Will understood the risk before the fall: “I think he knew going into it what was going to happen. He even says to Hannibal, ‘I don’t know If I can survive this, and that’s just fine with me.’” Fuller’s account supports a reading of the fall as Will accepting death rather than trying to escape the consequences of their bond. It is not a spoken, definitive explanation of every part of Will’s intent.
The embrace and the fall
The embrace can suggest tenderness and recognition between them. The fall can suggest Will ending their relationship on his own terms, while also preventing the two from continuing the cycle of harm. Those meanings are interpretations, not a single answer confirmed by the episode. Fuller described the story as “a love story from the very beginning – it was romantic horror.”

Who is at the table with Bedelia?
The post-credits image shows Bedelia seated at a dinner table with her own cooked leg served on a platter. It strongly invites the question of whether Hannibal is alive and has returned to her, but it does not show the diner or identify who prepared the meal. The table is set for three; that detail does not prove Will is there, either.
Fuller described Hannibal as the obvious possibility while also considering other possibilities for a continuation. The scene is a deliberate tease, not confirmation that Hannibal survived, that Will survived, or that they escaped together.

Is the ending meant to be final or open?
It does both. The Red Dragon conflict reaches its end, and Will’s season-long fear comes to a decision: he has gone so far into Hannibal’s world that he may not be able to return. At the same time, the missing bodies and Bedelia’s post-credits scene leave room for a continuation.
Fuller said the cliff fall could serve as a satisfying ending for viewers who take the two men to be dead. His contemporaneous discussion of a possible fourth season does not establish what happened after the aired finale. The episode itself supports closure for the immediate story while leaving the pair’s ultimate fate unresolved.

How does the Red Dragon story fit?
The latter part of Season 3 draws on Thomas Harris’s Red Dragon. The cliff ending and the choices the television series makes for Will and Hannibal belong to this adaptation; the novel is context for the Red Dragon arc, not an answer key for the series’ last scene.
