For a strong starting point, watch CM Punk vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank 2011, followed by Punk’s matches against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 and Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2013. Each has a distinct story: a hometown title challenge, a fight over The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Streak, and a No Disqualification grudge match.
What are CM Punk’s best WWE matches?
“Best” is subjective, and these three matches are a curated watchlist rather than a universal ranking. WWE’s event records establish their results and stakes, but they do not provide a comparable critical score or reader poll. 1. CM Punk vs. John Cena — WWE Championship, Money in the Bank 2011
Punk defeated Cena for the WWE Championship in Chicago on July 17, 2011. The match’s stakes extended beyond the title: Punk’s contract was nearing expiration, Vince McMahon tried to influence the result, and Alberto Del Rio attempted to cash in his Money in the Bank contract. Punk left through the crowd with the championship, making this the most compelling place to begin the watchlist. WWE’s event page and match report document the result and story.
WWE’s 2011 match report described the championship as having a “48-year lineage.” That is WWE’s contemporary framing, not an independently verified historical calculation.

2. The Undertaker vs. CM Punk — WrestleMania 29
The Undertaker defeated Punk at WrestleMania 29, with the WrestleMania Streak at the center of the stakes. WWE’s report says Punk came close to pinning Undertaker, giving the match its defining tension: the threat of an upset without a change in the result. WWE’s match report records the match and its context.
3. Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk — No Disqualification Match, SummerSlam 2013
Lesnar defeated Punk in a No Disqualification Match at SummerSlam on August 18, 2013. WWE tied the fight to Punk’s break with Paul Heyman and emphasized the physical challenge posed by Lesnar’s size and strength. Its stipulation and betrayal story make it a sharp contrast with the championship and Streak matches. See WWE’s SummerSlam 2013 results and match report.
