When Bunbury mother Tracy Mulcahy went to Bambi Blonde salon to shave her head after starting chemotherapy, her daughter Sophie unexpectedly picked up the razor and shaved her own head too. Sophie said she did not want her mother to “go through this alone.”
What happened at Bambi Blonde salon?
Tracy was having her head shaved as her hair began falling out during chemotherapy. Sophie was with her at the Bunbury salon when she took the razor and shaved her own head in solidarity. Tracy said she was shocked and urged her daughter not to do it: “I wasn’t expecting Sophie to shave her hair.” She explained that she did not want Sophie to experience what she was going through.
The salon posted video of the moment on its Instagram account. PerthNow reported on March 26, 2024, that the video had received almost half a million views by then. That is an approximate, dated figure—not a current view count.
What did Tracy say about her diagnosis and treatment?
In an interview on HIT’s Allan and Carly, as reported by PerthNow, Tracy said doctors diagnosed her with stage-four high-grade ovarian cancer after she was taken to hospital with COVID and they found fluid on her lung. She said further investigation identified the cancer and that she had started chemotherapy; her hair was beginning to fall out when she went to the salon.

Why did Sophie shave her head too?
Sophie’s gesture was a show of support for her mother. She explained that she did not want Tracy to “go through this alone.” A later account by Tyla reported that Sophie planned to donate her hair toward her mother’s wig. Neither report names a wig supplier.
