CM Punk and Seth Rollins brought up Vince McMahon during a heated face-off on WWE Raw on Dec. 30, 2024. The exchange was a storyline promo, not a separate real-world confrontation or an announcement about McMahon; it was the final verbal build to their match on Raw’s Jan. 6, 2025, Netflix premiere.
What happened on the Dec. 30 Raw?
In the closing face-off of Raw’s final episode on USA Network, Punk and Rollins argued about Punk’s WWE departure in 2014, his later podcast appearance with Colt Cabana, his move to AEW, and his return to WWE. McMahon came up as part of that argument. WWE described the segment as the final face-off before Punk and Rollins met at the Raw Netflix premiere (WWE’s Dec. 30, 2024 Raw recap).
Contemporaneous accounts by F4WOnline and CBS Sports summarize Punk as saying he disliked the person in charge when he left and suggesting McMahon favored Rollins. Rollins, in turn, challenged Punk’s choices and presented himself as someone who stayed with WWE and fought within the company.
Why McMahon was part of the exchange
The reference to McMahon helped frame the wrestlers’ disagreement about Punk’s exit and Rollins’ loyalty. Those remarks were promotional claims and character arguments made in a WWE storyline. They do not independently establish either man’s private motives or verify backstage events.
