Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band headlined Sea.Hear.Now in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on September 15, 2024, playing 30 songs. The set’s defining thread was its return to Springsteen’s early Asbury Park years: it moved through rarities including “Blinded by the Light,” “Thundercrack” and “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy), then built to an encore pairing “Meeting Across the River” with “Jungleland.” Springsteen’s official show page lists the set and links to the complete live-audio recording; videos linked by JamBase are audience-shot clips, not an established official full-show film.
Why this Sea.Hear.Now set stands out
Asbury Park was more than the festival’s location: the set made the town part of its musical story. After opening with “Lonesome Day,” Springsteen played four songs from his 1973 album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.: “Blinded by the Light,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?,” “Growin’ Up” and “Spirit in the Night.” Later came “Thundercrack” and the distinctly local “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy).”
The show then turned from that early-career material to a long run of familiar songs before its first encore reached back to Born to Run: “Meeting Across the River” led into “Jungleland.” Springsteen later told TIME that the festival was “One of our top five shows of all time for me,” and that he “didn’t realize how symbolic it was going to be for me.” Those are his retrospective judgments, not an objective ranking.
There are several different kinds of rarity in the set. Nugs identifies five songs as tour premieres: “Blinded by the Light,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?,” “Thundercrack,” “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” and “Meeting Across the River.” Setlist.fm separately marks “Local Hero” and “Jersey Girl” as tour debuts, and reports that “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” had not been performed with the E Street Band since 2016. These labels describe different things and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Other moments gave the performance texture beyond its rare-song count. According to setlist.fm’s community-maintained record, Springsteen introduced “Long Walk Home” as “a prayer for our country,” and Patti Scialfa joined him on “Tougher Than the Rest.” JamBase reports that he dedicated “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” to the late E Street Band founding organist Danny Federici. Kieran Lane’s review called the show a “perfect balance”—an individual critic’s assessment rather than a consensus rating.

Setlist.fm notes that “Seaside Bar Song” appeared on the printed setlist but was not played; “Growin’ Up,” “Hungry Heart” and “Bobby Jean” were performed despite not appearing on the printed list. Its listing gives a 7:30 p.m. start and 10:45 p.m. finish—a 3-hour-15-minute show—but those times come from a community-maintained record, not the official artist page.
