Blue Lock is a soccer manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, adapted into an anime about a project that gathers 300 high-school players to develop Japan’s leading striker. The story follows Yoichi Isagi and an ensemble of ambitious forwards whose rivalries and changing partnerships shape the competition. This anime-first guide identifies key characters and their Japanese voice actors, with cast details tied to the relevant season.

Who are the main Blue Lock characters?

Isagi is the central protagonist, but the project is built around a broad cast of strikers. The profiles below focus on major characters and the adults directing the program. Japanese voice credits are for the anime; where the official profile is season-specific, the season is identified.

Character Project role Characterization or signature weapon Key relationship Japanese voice actor and adaptation
Yoichi Isagi High-school forward and central protagonist Reads space, adapts to the field, and senses opportunities to score His development is shaped by competition and connections with other Blue Lock players Kazuki Ura; official English anime profile and current portal cast listing
Rin Itoshi Leading Blue Lock player Strong scoring ability and broad soccer skills Isagi’s prominent rival; Sae is his older brother Koki Uchiyama; official English character profile
Meguru Bachira Blue Lock forward Free-flowing dribbling and distinctive instincts An important early connection for Isagi Tasuku Kaito; first-season cast and official English cast
Rensuke Kunigami Blue Lock forward Principled and physically powerful, with left-footed shooting highlighted in his first-season profile A teammate and competitor within the selection process Yuki Ono; first-season cast
Hyoma Chigiri Blue Lock forward Speed is central to his profile; the second-season page describes his 50-meter speed and renewed confidence in his weapon His story includes regaining confidence in his ability Soma Saito; second-season profile
Seishiro Nagi Gifted forward Exceptional trapping and athletic ability; initially unmotivated Reo first brings him into soccer Nobunaga Shimazaki; second-season profile and official English cast
Reo Mikage Versatile Blue Lock player Observant and adaptable Initially brings Nagi into soccer; continues to evolve through the project Yuma Uchida; second-season profile
Shouei Barou Blue Lock forward Forceful, physical, and an accurate shooter; styles himself the “King” A commanding rival in the selection process Junichi Suwabe; second-season profile
Jinpachi Ego Coach and architect of the project Sharp-tongued director of Blue Lock’s selection process Works with Anri to run the project Hiroshi Kamiya; second-season profile
Anri Teieri Japan Football Union staff member Helps initiate and support the Blue Lock project Works alongside Ego Eri Yukimura; second-season profile

These entries are a guide to representative characters, not a complete roster. The official first-season cast list includes additional Team Z players, rivals, and figures such as Niko, the Wanima brothers, Zantetsu, Aryu, Tokimitsu, and Sae. The second-season profile page adds players including Yukimiya, Otoya, Karasu, Hiori, and Nanase, as well as U-20 Japan characters. See the official first-season cast page and official second-season profiles for their listed names and credits.

Who is Yoichi Isagi?

Isagi begins as an unknown high-school forward who joins Blue Lock hoping to become Japan’s ace striker. The official English profile emphasizes his spatial awareness, adaptability, and ability to sense “the smell of a goal.” Those qualities make him the audience’s main point of entry: he is not introduced as an already dominant star, but as a player learning how to turn perception and decision-making into goals. His Japanese voice actor is Kazuki Ura. The official English anime site provides his character profile.

How do the other forwards connect to Isagi?

Bachira: an early connection and creative foil

Bachira’s distinctive instincts and free-flowing dribbling make him one of Isagi’s important early connections. His style brings an unpredictable, individual quality to the team’s soccer. The first-season cast page credits Tasuku Kaito, as does the official English cast page.

Rin: a high-level rival with a family tie

Rin is one of Blue Lock’s leading players, and his skill set extends beyond one signature move. The official character profile positions him as a rival figure to Isagi and identifies Sae as his older brother. His Japanese voice actor is Koki Uchiyama.

Nagi and Reo: a partnership that changes

Nagi’s natural gifts—especially his trapping and athletic ability—contrast with his initial lack of motivation. Reo is the observant, versatile player who first brings Nagi into soccer. Their connection is a useful lens on the series’ shifting partnerships: players arrive with existing ties, but Blue Lock’s competition pressures them to change how they play and whom they rely on.

Chigiri, Kunigami, and Barou: different weapons, different temperaments

Chigiri is defined by speed and the return of confidence in his weapon. Kunigami is principled and powerful, with left-footed shooting noted in his first-season profile. Barou brings physical force and accurate shooting, along with the self-image of a king. These contrasts help make the cast more than a list of competing forwards: each player’s approach to scoring reflects a different temperament.

Who runs the Blue Lock project?

Jinpachi Ego directs the project and its selection process, using a blunt, demanding approach to push the players. Anri Teieri, a Japan Football Union staff member, helps initiate and support the program. They are central adults in the story, but the conflict and character development largely revolve around the players competing inside the system. Their Japanese voice actors are Hiroshi Kamiya and Eri Yukimura, respectively, according to the official second-season profiles.

Which Blue Lock cast list or rankings should you use?

Cast pages and profiles are tied to particular anime seasons and story phases. The first-season site offers a broad cast list; the second-season page expands its profiles and includes U-20 Japan characters. Rankings shown in those second-season profiles belong to that profile context, not to a timeless or manga-wide power ranking. For a cast credit, check the season’s official page rather than combining listings as if they were one unchanging franchise roster.

The official anime portal currently promotes the “Neo Egoist League” adaptation, credits the original story to Muneyuki Kaneshiro and the manga to Yusuke Nomura, and reports third-season production news. Its main cast section includes Kazuki Ura and Mamoru Miyano. Because adaptation announcements and credits can change, use the official anime portal for the current franchise-level cast and production information. A dated announcement on the first-season site named Japanese voice actors for Ryusei Shidou, Tabito Karasu, Eita Otoya, Kenyu Yukimiya, Julian Loki, and Leonardo Luna on March 26, 2023; it is an announcement for that date, not a substitute for later cast pages. Read the dated cast announcement.

Is Blue Lock based on a manga?

Yes. Blue Lock is a soccer manga created by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, and Kodansha licenses the title. Kodansha describes the premise as gathering 300 youth players in pursuit of developing a leading Japanese striker; the anime’s first-season synopsis likewise frames 300 selected high-school players as the project’s starting point. The manga is the source material for readers who want to follow the characters beyond the anime adaptation. Kodansha’s title page provides its publisher and series information.
