It was a brief campaign appearance—not a full Springsteen concert.
Where and when the rally took place
The Harris campaign held its “When We Vote We Win” rally at Temple University’s Liacouras Center in North Philadelphia on October 28, 2024, shortly before the presidential election. The series aimed to mobilize voters in battleground states. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that 10,000 people attended; that is the newspaper’s reported figure, not a certified count. The Inquirer’s event-night coverage also reported that Barack Obama and John Legend appeared. Legend performed before Springsteen, and Obama spoke afterward.
What songs Springsteen performed
Springsteen performed alone, without the E Street Band, accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica. The three-song solo acoustic set was:
- “The Promised Land”
- “Land of Hope and Dreams”
- “Dancing in the Dark”
The setlist is documented by Setlist.fm, a community-maintained setlist database. “Dancing in the Dark” also appears on Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A.; the rally performance was not a full concert recording.

What Springsteen said about the candidates
Springsteen opened with a direct statement of his position: “I’m Bruce Springsteen and I’m here today to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and to oppose Donald Trump and JD Vance,” The Guardian reported.
He argued for Harris and Walz and against Trump and Vance, describing the latter as “folks who want to fundamentally undermine the American way of life,” according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Philadelphia remarks followed an earlier October endorsement. In that endorsement, Springsteen said Harris and Walz had “a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone, regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view or sexual identity, and they want to grow our economy in a way that benefits all,” as Reuters reported. Those were his earlier endorsement words, distinct from what he said at the rally.

The Philadelphia event combined speeches and performances as part of a voter-mobilization rally. Springsteen’s contribution was three solo acoustic songs and a political statement, rather than a full set with the E Street Band. The available event coverage establishes the campaign’s mobilization goal, but it does not establish that the appearance changed turnout or voter behavior.
