Brinda is an eight-episode Telugu crime thriller about a police investigation shaped by old wounds, superstition and the possibility of change. Nandini Ramnath’s review for Scroll.in finds the series compelling in its themes and performances, while noting that its slow start and occasional scripting contrivances blunt some of its impact.

The opening episode, “The Chosen One,” begins with Brinda investigating a dead body found in a drain. SonyLIV lists that episode at 41 minutes; that figure applies to episode one, not necessarily to the other seven episodes. See the episode page for its listing.
How the past shapes the present
Ramnath describes Brinda as an effort to bring folk belief into a police-procedural story. In her reading, the violence is not simply a puzzle for the investigators to solve: the killer’s actions grow out of personal experience, while superstition becomes a means of abuse whose psychological damage persists. That connection between past and present gives the investigation its thematic weight.

The review also sees the series’ timelines and character histories as part of a larger tension between fatalism and the possibility of changing course. Ramnath reads the rag doll as a metaphor for possession, reinforcing the show’s interest in how beliefs and earlier harms can exert a hold on people long after the original events.
Performances, pacing and weaknesses
Ramnath praises Trisha Krishnan’s portrayal of Brinda, a police sub-inspector contending with self-doubt and sexism at work as she pursues a serial killer. She also commends the supporting performances and the ambition of the past-and-present storylines.

The review’s reservations are about execution rather than premise: it finds the opening slow, points to contrivances in the scripting, and says a sister subplot distracts from the central tension. Those are Ramnath’s critical judgments, not neutral programme facts. They matter for viewers who want a tightly paced procedural from its first episode; the show’s thematic concerns may be a stronger draw than an immediately propulsive start.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Brinda worth watching?
Brinda is a good choice for viewers interested in a crime thriller where the investigation opens onto questions of inherited harm, belief and agency. Its appeal, as Ramnath’s review frames it, lies in linking present-day violence to the experiences and systems that came before it, supported by a strong lead performance. Viewers seeking brisk, consistently focused plotting may be less persuaded by the slow start and distracting subplot.
