Yerin Ha plays Sophie Baek, Benedict Bridgerton’s love interest in Bridgerton Season 4. Sophie first meets Benedict at Violet Bridgerton’s masquerade ball, where he knows her as the mysterious Lady in Silver. Netflix announced Ha’s casting on October 28, 2024; the season premiered in two parts in 2026 and is now streaming on Netflix.
Who is Sophie Baek in Bridgerton?
Sophie Baek is a resourceful maid with a mysterious past. At Violet Bridgerton’s masquerade, she appears in disguise as the Lady in Silver and catches Benedict’s attention. He does not initially know her identity, while viewers learn that the woman behind the mask is Sophie.

Netflix’s background guide says Sophie was once a ward at Penwood House and is the biological daughter of Lord Penwood. Those details add context to the difficult circumstances she faces as a maid.
Why is Season 4 centered on Benedict and Sophie?
The season adapts Julia Quinn’s third Bridgerton novel, An Offer from a Gentleman. In Quinn’s book, the character is named Sophie Beckett; the screen version uses Sophie Baek. In her Netflix Tudum interview, Ha said changing the surname was empowering. She explained that showrunner Jess Brownell asked her about Korean surnames beginning with B before they settled on Baek.

Ha also described what appealed to her about the role: “What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome.” She pointed to Sophie’s struggles with social status and hiding her feelings for Benedict. Ha added, “A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful.”
How does the season frame their romance?
Showrunner Jess Brownell characterizes the leads as living in different circumstances: “Benedict lives in a fantasy world. Sophie lives in a hard reality.” Brownell said both need to move toward the middle for their romance to bloom. It is an interpretation of the couple’s central tension, not a full account of every development in the season.
