Bridgerton Season 2 did not remove sex scenes, but it has fewer physical intimate scenes than Season 1, according to creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen. The difference is one of emphasis: Season 1 follows Daphne’s sexual discovery, while Anthony and Kate’s Season 2 romance builds around tension and gradual closeness. Van Dusen also said every intimate scene scripted for Season 2 made the final edit.
What changed between Seasons 1 and 2?
Van Dusen told the Los Angeles Times on March 25, 2022 that Season 2 has “less actual physical, intimate scenes” than Season 1. He said the series uses intimacy to tell the story, rather than adding sex scenes simply for their own sake.
| Comparison | Season 1 | Season 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Romantic focus | Daphne’s sexual discovery. | Anthony and Kate’s enemies-to-lovers buildup. |
| Physical intimacy | More than Season 2, according to showrunner Chris Van Dusen; no scene count or duration comparison is established. | Fewer physical intimate scenes than Season 1, according to Van Dusen; no scene count or duration is established. |
| Emphasis | Intimacy accompanies Daphne’s discovery. | Intense buildup and the “space between” Anthony and Kate as they gradually draw closer, as intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot described it in a Vogue India interview published April 10, 2022. |
The available sources do not provide a consistent numeric count or screen-time comparison across the two seasons. “Fewer” is supported; a precise tally is not.
Are sex scenes absent from Season 2?
No. The British Board of Film Classification’s UK video-on-demand records list “sex” and “sexual images” for all eight Season 2 episodes. The BBFC classifications, dated March 24, 2022, confirm that sexual content appears in the season. They do not measure how many scenes there are, how long they last, or how explicit they are. The BBFC also cautions that its database records overall classifications, not separate ratings for each episode.

Were intimate scenes cut from the final edit?
Van Dusen said no scripted intimate or sex scenes were cut. In a 2022 Teen Vogue interview, he said every intimate scene scripted for the season made the final edit.
That does not mean nothing changed during editing. Van Dusen said lines or individual words could be adjusted for time or storytelling. His claim was specifically that scripted intimate scenes were not cut, not that every line or piece of material remained unchanged.

The stated difference is about storytelling and pacing, not a confirmed external cause. Season 2 centers on Anthony and Kate’s slow-burn romance, so the buildup and their gradual movement toward one another carry more of the tension. Talbot described the focus as the intense buildup and the space between them. Van Dusen likewise said intimate scenes should serve the story.
The sources cited here do not establish that the change was a response to audience reaction, a platform restriction, or an actor-related cause.
