Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reported to be returning as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell in a new The Mummy sequel. The film’s currently reported release date is October 15, 2027, after Universal moved it up from its originally announced May 19, 2028 date.
Who is returning for the new Mummy sequel?
TheWrap reported on February 10, 2026, that Fraser and Weisz would reprise their roles as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell. The project is a sequel in the franchise starring those characters, not Lee Cronin’s separate film also titled The Mummy, released in 2026. TheWrap

When is the new Mummy movie coming out?
The currently reported release date is October 15, 2027. Variety reported on April 25, 2026, that Universal moved the film to that date and assigned its former May 19, 2028 slot to Miami Vice ’85. Who is making the sequel?
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directing duo known as Radio Silence, are reported to be directing. David Coggeshall is reported to have written the screenplay. What will the new film be about?
The plot has not been disclosed in the cited reporting. TheWrap quoted Gillett describing the intended character of the film: “It’s romantic, and it’s scary, and it takes some real chances. There’s a lot of risk in it, but it’s big and swashbuckling.” That is a description of the filmmakers’ aims, not a review of a finished movie. TheWrap

Will it continue The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor?
That has not been established in the reporting cited here. The film’s continuity relationship to The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor remains undisclosed, so it would be premature to say whether the sequel follows that film, revises its events, or takes another approach.

LOS40 reported in September 2026 that production had begun and named additional returning performers, including John Hannah. Those details come from secondary reporting; they should not be treated as an official studio cast announcement unless Universal confirms them.
