Maitland Ward, who played Rachel McGuire on Boy Meets World, entered adult film in 2019. In her own account, the move offered roles and creative expression she felt mainstream acting had not. That is Ward’s description of her experience—not a verdict on what the adult industry is like for every performer.
From Rachel McGuire to adult film
Ward became familiar to television audiences as Rachel McGuire on Boy Meets World. InsideHook reported in July 2020 that she launched her adult-film career the previous year, with the film Drive. The publication framed the move as a reversal of the more familiar route from adult entertainment into mainstream Hollywood.

Ward’s explanation appeared in a first-person essay for The Daily Beast, excerpts of which InsideHook reproduced. She described her story as “a journey rather than a cautionary tale” and said she valued having roles she wanted to play and room to find her voice. She also wrote: “People will ask me if I fear that the adult industry has ruined me for mainstream. It’s quite the opposite. Mainstream ruined me for mainstream.” Those lines express her view of her own career; they do not establish that mainstream acting or adult film offers the same conditions to other performers. How Ward has discussed the transition since
Ward has returned to the subject in interviews and in her memoir, Rated X: How Porn Liberated Me from Hollywood. Apple Podcasts episode listings describe a 2025 appearance on Pod Meets World covering her role as Rachel and her later career. Listings for 2022 conversations refer to her memoir and her transition from Hollywood to adult film. These are directory descriptions, not full interview transcripts, so they indicate the topics discussed rather than supplying a complete account of her remarks. The question of whether porn is empowering or exploitative cannot be settled by one person’s story. Ward’s published comments point to the creative choice and role selection she says she found in her own path. Other performers’ experiences may differ, and her account should not be treated as a general description of working conditions across the industry.
What Ward has said about earnings
In an April 2026 report about Hollywood Demons: Child Stars Gone Wild, TV Insider attributed two income remarks to Ward, citing Us Weekly. She estimated that she had earned “$20,000 or $25,000 an episode” on Boy Meets World and said, “In porn or OnlyFans, I can get six figures a month.” These are Ward’s reported statements, not audited figures: the monthly amount is a claim about what she can earn, not an established average, guaranteed income, or figure for adult performers generally. That comparison also does not by itself show which path provides greater financial security. Per-episode television pay and a stated possible monthly income describe different kinds of work and do not establish recurring earnings, guarantees, or overall career conditions.

Ward’s memoir offers a longer first-person account of her life in mainstream entertainment and adult film. For adjacent context, OK! reported in 2024 that she was surprised by support from former co-star Ben Savage. That report concerns a co-star’s response, not the specific interview named in this article’s original headline. See OK!’s coverage.
