In comments to Forbes reported by PEOPLE, he also said he had known Spencer Dutton’s story arc from the beginning.
What did Brandon Sklenar say about the finale?
In an August 9, 2024 Forbes interview, Sklenar described his reaction to reading the finale: “The finale of the series is probably one of the best things I’ve read in my life.” PEOPLE reported the Forbes interview, and Yahoo carried PEOPLE’s report.
Sklenar also said Taylor Sheridan had told him how the story would end: “I’ve kind of known how it was going to end since day one — Taylor [Sheridan] kind of told me.” He added, “I knew the full arc of Spencer from day one, so in shooting part one, you’re mindful of where he needs to go.”
Why did reading it affect him?
In a separate PEOPLE interview published April 4, 2025, Sklenar described an emotional response to the script: “I mean, I couldn’t even prep it because it would just make me so emotional reading it,” he said. He recalled reading it and thinking, “Whoa, this is absurd.” His comments describe his response to the written finale; they do not establish how viewers or critics would judge the completed episode.

What was Spencer’s story leading into the finale?
Sklenar played Spencer Dutton, the nephew of Cara and Jacob Dutton, played by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Reports framed Spencer’s story around his difficult journey toward Montana and his relationship with his wife, Alex, who was also traveling to reunite with him. The comments and reporting provide that setup, but do not disclose how the finale resolves their stories.
