Bobbie Jean Carter died on Dec. 23, 2023, at age 41. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s reported finding was that she died from “intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine”; the manner of death was ruled accidental.
What was Bobbie Jean Carter’s cause of death?
News reports published in February 2024 attributed the finding to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s report. E! News said it had obtained the official report, while the Los Angeles Times reported that the medical examiner’s case summary listed intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine as the cause and classified the death as accidental. Tampa Bay 28 also attributed the cause to a Hillsborough County case-summary report.

The finding was reported publicly on Feb. 13, 2024, nearly two months after Carter’s death. It is the medical examiner’s reported determination, not an independently reviewed account of the underlying document here.
What is known about the timeline?
The Independent, summarizing People’s reporting on the document, said Carter’s roommate last saw her at about 6:30 a.m. and found her unresponsive around 7 a.m. She was pronounced dead at St Joseph’s Hospital at 8:02 a.m. These times are from secondary reporting about the case document.

They do not establish how the substances were taken, where they came from, or the circumstances behind their presence.
