Rob Bricken’s April 26, 2023 comparison of Silo and Westworld season 4 is about a resemblance that catches the ear—not proof that one score copies or derives from the other. He points to a sinister, increasingly frantic piano, a similar-sounding final chord, and title sequences that build mood through slowly moving imagery.
What the comparison is between
Bricken compares the opening title sequence for Apple TV+’s Silo with the season 4 opening credits for Westworld. He names Atli Örvarsson as the composer of Silo’s opening and Ramin Djawadi, known for Game of Thrones, in connection with Westworld’s opening. The pairing is specific: it is not a claim that every season or piece of music from either series sounds alike.

In the 2023 Gizmodo article, Bricken describes the musical resemblance as his own impression: both openings have a sinister, increasingly frantic piano and a similar-feeling final chord. He also sees a likeness in the visual mood, with slowly moving imagery that evokes each show’s world. Those observations do not establish a shared key, melody, or deliberate influence.
Why the two openings can feel alike
Music that builds unease
A piano figure that grows more urgent can make an opening feel as though it is moving toward a revelation or threat. Bricken hears that kind of tension in both sequences, and singles out their closing chords as another point of resemblance. That is a description of how the music strikes him, not a technical score comparison.

Slow images, ominous worlds
Bricken’s visual comparison is about pacing and atmosphere: imagery unfolds slowly, inviting the viewer to read the titles as a passage into an unsettling world. Silo and Westworld are both dystopian science-fiction series, so a measured, foreboding opening can serve a similar dramatic purpose without demonstrating that the sequences share a design or source.
Resemblance is not an allegation
Bricken explicitly softens the comparison: “This is not a judgment call! If you’re going to compose an opening credits song for a dystopian science fiction TV series, you could do a lot worse than being inspired by the opening for the dystopian science fiction TV series Westworld.” His point is playful recognition, not a finding of plagiarism or a statement about either composer’s intent.

What the article establishes—and what it does not
- It establishes: Bricken heard a resemblance between Silo’s opening and Westworld season 4’s credits, especially in the piano-led tension, closing chord, and visual mood.
- It does not establish: that the themes use the same key or melody, that either composer intentionally borrowed from the other, or that copying occurred.
The original comparison is Rob Bricken’s April 26, 2023 Gizmodo article. For listeners, the useful takeaway is simply that two ominous science-fiction openings can leave a familiar impression while remaining distinct works.
