Blockbuster Inc. is no longer an operating video-rental business, so there is no current customer experience or verified overall rating to review. DISH Network completed its purchase of substantially all of Blockbuster Inc.’s assets on April 26, 2011; the company later told the SEC it had no ongoing business operations. This is a historical review of the rental chain and its business model, not an assessment of a current service.
What Blockbuster Inc. did
Blockbuster Inc. sold and rented movies and video games, with stores at the center of its business. Its 2005 SEC filing described the company as a provider of in-home movie and game rental and retail entertainment. At its reported peak scale in that filing, it operated more than 9,000 stores across the United States, its territories, and 24 other countries as of December 31, 2005. How the rental experience worked—and where it caused friction
Convenient access through local stores
The store-based model gave customers a physical place to browse and rent movies and games. That convenience depended on a store being nearby and the desired title being available there; it was different from delivery methods that did not require a visit to a retail location.
Late fees became a customer complaint
Blockbuster said it launched its “no late fees” program to address what it called its most prevalent customer complaint. In its SEC filing, management wrote: “The ‘no late fees’ program was launched to eliminate our most prevalent customer complaint with the movie rental experience and to combat our competitors’ use of ‘late fees’ as a means of differentiating their service offerings.” This is the company’s characterization of the complaint, not independent proof that every customer objected to late fees. The same filing identifies competition from non-store delivery methods as part of the changing market. Blockbuster Inc.’s 2005 Form 10-K

What happened to Blockbuster Inc.?
DISH Network’s asset purchase closed on April 26, 2011. Blockbuster Inc.’s 2011 Form 10-K states: “As a result of the Asset Sale, we have no ongoing business operations and will have no business operations in the future.” The filing concerns Blockbuster Inc. as a company; it does not establish that every later use of the Blockbuster name or brand was the same business. Are BLOCKBUSTER stores remaining open?
A legacy Blockbuster FAQ says corporate locations closed on January 12, 2014, and approximately 50 franchise stores remained at that time. That is a dated statement from a page carrying a 2014 copyright notice, not a current store count or confirmation that any of those locations remain open today. Blockbuster’s legacy FAQ

Does Blockbuster still exist as a service?
The same legacy FAQ described Blockbuster@Home and Blockbuster On Demand as then-available offerings. Because the page is dated and does not verify current availability, it cannot establish that either service operates today. Nor does the SEC record of Blockbuster Inc.’s wind-down by itself settle the status of every later Blockbuster-branded offering. Blockbuster’s legacy FAQ

Reviews of Blockbuster Inc. are useful as a historical record of a store-based rental business, especially when considering convenience, title access, rental fees and return rules, and the pressure from alternatives that did not depend on stores. They are not a way to judge a current Blockbuster Inc. service: the available records do not establish a recent representative rating, review count, or current customer-sentiment score. Claims about the old company should also be kept separate from any later service using the Blockbuster name.

- "Startups" is the updated version of an older Oink Game which came out in 2015 and won the second prize at Game Market Tokyo: "Rights". We upgraded the rules, the design and it is even possible to play with more players now!
- Every player takes the role of an investor and needs to try to invest in at least one of six startup companies to get the biggest shares. Only the player with the most cards of one company can get money in the end, which is why you need to carefully watch the moves of your rival players and thus become the top investor.
- To make the original game even more interesting, we added "the market", the "Anti-Monopoly-Chip" and more. The rules are still as simple as they were, but if you have played "Rights" before you should notice a new depth to it.
- The logos of the six startup companies were designed by Kentaro "ANI" Fujimoto who is a famous typographer in Japan. We recommend talking about the different logos and about what kind of company stands behind it - it's fun!
