The paparazzi images caught costumes in progress; the finished wardrobe was a collaborative, deliberately eclectic design by costume designer Eric Daman and Lively, built around vintage workwear, feminine pieces, and Lily’s personality.
What did Blake Lively wear on the It Ends With Us set?
The best-known looks combine practical, worn-in clothing with conspicuous decorative pieces: a vintage Carhartt coverall, oversized chore jackets, patterned separates, sequined eveningwear, and designer accessories. That mix was intentional. Daman and Lively wanted Lily’s wardrobe to feel layered and individual rather than like a predictable floral-dress version of a flower-shop owner.

In a Glamour interview published August 16, 2024, Daman said they began with the idea that Lily “paints with every color in my paint box.” He described vintage references, pattern mixing, and a palette of deep, desaturated autumn colors. The looks draw on the 1970s, 1990s, and early 2000s without adhering to one period.
How Lily Bloom’s wardrobe tells a story
Workwear alongside feminine pieces
Daman and Lively avoided making Lily’s style a simple shorthand for her flower shop. Instead, workwear sits beside feminine or ornamental clothing, with thrown-together layers contributing to a less polished, more personal impression. TIME described combinations including sequined eveningwear with oversized Carhartt chore jackets, low-slung quilted patchwork pants with plaid boxer shorts, and a vest and shirt under a leather blazer at her father’s funeral. That is TIME’s description of the finished costumes, not confirmation that every item came from a particular label.

A protective layer, in the designer’s interpretation
Daman said the workwear could act as a “protective outer layer and shell” for Lily as she navigates an abusive relationship. That is the costume designer’s interpretation of the clothes, not a clinical claim or the only way to read them. The rougher, layered styling also stands apart from the more polished Upper East Side looks Daman created with Lively for Gossip Girl.
Where are Lily Bloom’s Carhartt overalls from?
The rooftop scene features a vintage, insulated Carhartt coverall. Daman told Glamour that he searched Etsy and eBay and found a French-blue garment with a worn, stained finish in the right size. He estimated it dated to the late 1970s or early 1980s; that is an estimate, not a verified production date. He recalled that it was the right piece for the scene and that Lively “sold it.”

A Carhartt coverall you can find today should be treated as a lookalike, not the confirmed screen-worn garment. Daman’s account identifies the vintage piece and its general appearance, but does not identify a current listing or a precise product model.
Which other garments and accessories have been identified?
- YSL crystal mesh boots: Daman said the boots worn for a party scene belonged to Lively.
- Plaid vest: A vest in a Lily Bloom store montage belonged to Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds.
- Guest in Residence pieces: Daman said Lively connected the costume team with Gigi Hadid, and the team borrowed several pieces from Hadid’s brand.
- Valentino tote: Daman described a Valentino tote as Lily’s “hero tote,” an aspirational but comparatively relatable designer accessory. Harper’s Bazaar did not give a precise model name.
The boots and vest details, as well as Daman’s account of the borrowed pieces and coverall, appear in the Glamour interview. Daman discussed the Valentino tote with Harper’s Bazaar on August 14, 2024. Neither source establishes an exact model for the tote or boots.

Who designed the costumes for It Ends With Us?
Eric Daman was the film’s costume designer, and Lively was an active creative collaborator. Daman described styling looks together and working cohesively. Director Justin Baldoni also said Lively contributed to costume design and other aspects of production in an August 2024 Good Morning America interview. The accounts support describing the wardrobe as a collaboration led by the costume department, not as a solo design by either Daman or Lively.

Photographs of an actor walking from a trailer to a set may capture only part of a costume, without the lighting, scene, or surrounding styling that shapes its effect in the film. Daman said early reactions to paparazzi images were polarized and that the studio had concerns, but he and Lively stood by the concept.
That context does not mean every viewer will find the wardrobe convincing. In its August 2024 commentary, TIME argued that the costumes’ eccentricity could feel mismatched with the film’s tone. The contrast is useful: Daman discussed the looks as character-driven choices, while TIME judged how they worked within the finished film.
