Katen Kyōkotsu is the name of Shunsui Kyōraku’s zanpakutō, the weapon associated with him as a Soul Reaper. Episode #37 continues the fight’s consequences. Lille is thought to have been defeated, but transforms further and hunts Kyōraku. Badly injured and near collapse, Kyōraku is called back by Nanao, who asks him to return her zanpakutō. The official synopsis connects Nanao’s resolve with Kyōraku loosening the burden he has carried since putting on the captain’s coat. Official story summary, episode #37.
Why does Nanao ask Shunsui to return her zanpakutō?
In the official episode summary, Nanao’s request is part of the emotional turning point after Kyōraku’s costly confrontation with Lille. Her resolve reaches him as he is close to collapse, and the synopsis frames the moment as helping him loosen the burden he has carried as captain. It does not provide further details about the weapon’s history or the mechanics behind the request.

The official profile and episode summaries confirm Katen Kyōkotsu’s association with Kyōraku and show him releasing Bankai in the Lille fight.
