For U.S. viewers, this week’s streaming window runs Monday, Jan. 12, through Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026. If you’re choosing something for Friday night, Netflix’s crime film The Rip is the week’s clearest movie premiere; other notable arrivals include Ponies, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Release dates and libraries can differ by region, and a listed premiere date does not guarantee the same local release time.
What to watch on Friday, Jan. 16
The Rip — Netflix
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck lead Joe Carnahan’s crime thriller about Miami police officers who find millions of dollars in a stash house and begin to question whether they can trust one another. The ensemble also includes Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins and Kyle Chandler. It’s the week’s most direct choice for a movie-length crime story rather than a new series commitment. Netflix’s January movie guide lists the film for Friday, Jan. 16.
New releases already available
Ponies — Peacock, Jan. 15
This eight-episode spy thriller stars Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson. Peacock’s coverage describes it as a binge release, making it the week’s option for viewers who would rather watch a new story at their own pace than wait for weekly installments. Peacock’s announcement has the date and cast; its January spy-thriller guide describes the release as a binge drop.
Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials — Netflix, Jan. 15
Set in England in 1925, this mystery begins when a prank at a country-house party appears to turn deadly. Mia McKenna-Bruce plays Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, who investigates; the cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter and Martin Freeman. It’s the week’s period-whodunit pick. Netflix’s guide to new shows lists the series and its January 15 arrival.

It is the natural choice for established fans looking for another story in the franchise; viewers new to Star Trek may want to check the show’s own description for its premise and setting before starting. The January 15 date is listed in CableTV’s weekly schedule and Tom’s Guide’s picks for Jan. 12–18.
Tell Me Lies Season 3 — Hulu, Jan. 13

The Upshaws Part 7 — Netflix, Jan. 15
Netflix’s label is “Part 7,” not Season 7. The new episodes follow the Indianapolis family through continuing work, family and relationship troubles, with Mike Epps, Kim Fields and Wanda Sykes among the returning cast. It’s the week’s lighter, familiar sitcom option. The date and platform labeling appear in Netflix’s new-shows guide.

Netflix also added the first three seasons of Veronica Mars on Jan. 14, according to Netflix’s January 9 guide. That makes the series new to the service, not a new production. Other Jan. 15 Netflix additions listed alongside the week’s premieres include Bone Lake, Love Through a Prism and To Love, To Lose; their presence on a catalog list does not by itself make them new series launches. See Netflix’s guide for its January 15 listings.
