A separate service called Divine has revived six-second video creation and made a substantial collection of old Vine clips easier to watch. Divine is independent of Vine, Twitter and X, so “Vine is back” describes a revival of the format and part of its archive—not the return of the original social network.
What returned—and when?
Divine is a Vine-inspired social video service for creating and watching short looping clips. It began describing its project publicly in November 2025, when it said its beta included more than 100,000 archived videos. On April 29, 2026, Divine announced a public launch in Apple’s App Store and Google Play, with new six-second video creation alongside archived clips. Its current U.S. App Store listing claims 2.1 million classic Vines. Those totals are Divine’s own figures, not independently audited counts. Divine’s November 2025 announcement and April 2026 launch announcement describe the project’s changing archive claims.
Twitter acquired Vine in 2013 and later discontinued it. The original service did not return as a functioning social network: its terms described a read-only archive of previously public material, with no new accounts or posts. Divine says it is unaffiliated with Vine, Twitter or X. Vine’s archived terms and Divine’s site make the distinction clear.
How many old Vines are available?
The reported totals have grown, but they are not directly comparable. The projects may count different collections, formats or records, and a clip counted in an archive is not necessarily playable in Divine.

| Date and source | Reported amount | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| November 13, 2025 — Divine | More than 100,000 videos | Early beta/archive figure, stated by Divine. |
| April 29, 2026 — Divine | About 500,000 videos from nearly 100,000 creators | Launch-period figure, stated by Divine and also reported by TechCrunch. |
| Current U.S. App Store listing | 2.1 million classic Vines | Current marketing claim on Divine’s listing; the listing does not establish an independently verified count of unique, playable clips. |
| Independent Viner archive | More than 1.8 million clips | A separate, unofficial archive’s stated dataset, not Divine’s catalog. |
The exact number of unique original Vines that are publicly accessible and playable is not independently established by these figures. Divine’s early announcement refers to preserved archive material, while the separate Viner archive describes its own collection. The available collections can differ because of missing files or metadata, duplicates, indexing choices and changing catalogs.
What does “restored” mean?
Here, restoration means that surviving video files and archive data have been surfaced in new browsing experiences. It does not mean that Vine’s original platform has been rebuilt. A playable clip may lack its original profile context, comments, likes, view count or other history. Some videos may not be recoverable or may be missing identifying information.

Viner is a distinct, unofficial archival project. Its archive site explains its own preserved data and media sources; it should not be mistaken for Divine or official account recovery. Viner’s archive project describes that effort.
Where can you watch the clips or make new ones?
Divine is the option in the sources described here that combines archive browsing with new six-second posts. Its web experience is at divine.video; its U.S. iOS App Store listing is another access point. The listing checked in August 2026 says the app is free and requires iOS 16 or later. App availability and requirements can change by region and over time.

Divine supports new loops and social features such as profiles, comments, lists, messaging, notifications and sharing. Its iOS release notes describe tools including trimming, sound, speed controls, voice-over, reverse clips and stop-motion; feature availability can vary by platform and app version. New uploads are Divine posts, not posts to the discontinued Vine network.
For archival browsing without Divine’s social app, Viner is an independent read-only option. It has no established corporate relationship with Divine. Neither service should be treated as a complete or official replacement for the original Vine.

Who is behind Divine?
Divine is operated by Verse Communications PBC, according to its terms. The App Store identifies Verse Communications Inc. as the developer and lists Rabble Labs Limited in its copyright information. The project is associated with Rabble, an early Twitter employee who worked on the revival. Funding came from Jack Dorsey’s nonprofit And Other Stuff, as reported by TechCrunch. Dorsey is a backer, not evidence that X or Twitter relaunched Vine.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What makes Divine different from the original Vine?
It uses Nostr, with practical infrastructure dependencies
Divine says it is built around Nostr, an open protocol, and describes using relays and Blossom media servers. Users may have choices about hosting providers, but a protocol being open does not make every part of the service independent of infrastructure. Divine also describes controlled infrastructure and content-delivery systems. A post’s availability can still depend on servers, relays and media hosting, and decentralization does not prevent moderation, outages, copyright claims or copies persisting elsewhere. Divine explains its architecture in its FAQ and service FAQ.

It publishes open-source clients
Divine says its web and mobile clients are open source. That can make the client code inspectable, but it does not by itself guarantee that the service, its content or its infrastructure will remain available. See Divine’s open-source page.
It promotes human-made video
Divine markets itself as human-first and says it bans generative-AI content. Its terms prohibit certain synthetic, manipulated or AI-generated media when used to deceive, exploit, impersonate or violate rights. That policy depends on moderation, detection and reporting; it is not proof that every clip on the service is human-made or that synthetic material can never slip through. The rules are set out in Divine’s terms and safety standards.
What did not come back—and what should users consider?
Divine restores access to clips, not the complete Vine experience. The original platform’s account system, community relationships and cultural moment do not automatically return with archived files. A clip also does not prove that its original creator has reclaimed an account or controls every copy of the video.
- Privacy: Divine’s FAQ warns against posting material that requires true privacy. Public social video can be copied or scraped, regardless of the network’s architecture. Divine’s FAQ addresses this risk.
- Rights and takedowns: Rehosting old clips can raise copyright, publicity and privacy issues. Divine’s rules and enforcement apply to its service, but they cannot necessarily remove copies hosted elsewhere; see its safety standards.
- Account recovery: Divine does not promise restoration of original Vine credentials or social connections. Viner describes account-reclaiming features for some users who linked an old X/Twitter account, but that is a separate, unofficial project: Viner’s archive site.
- Long-term access: Open-source software and an open protocol do not guarantee that a particular app, server, media host or archive will operate indefinitely.
Divine says browsing, posting and interacting do not require cryptocurrency or payment; its FAQ also advises users about the service’s privacy limits. Its FAQ has the current details.
