In a 2023 People interview, Burke said the experience was more fun than she expected—and that “every show is mind-blowing.”
Why Burke accepted the job
Burke hosted the show’s tenth season. She told People that accepting was an easy decision because she loves magic, believes in it and enjoys hosting live television. The appeal was not limited to introducing acts: Burke said she interviewed contestants, learned about their lives and histories with magic, and participated in some tricks.
What made the experience “mind-blowing”
Burke described filming as “literally like going to a magic show every day.” The format gave her a close view of performers attempting to fool Penn and Teller, as well as the live audience’s reactions. She said that combination made each show exciting.
The contestant interviews also let Burke focus on the personal stories behind the performances. She said she wanted “to really bring to life, I think, the emotional side of magic.” In her account, the show’s appeal came both from the tricks and from seeing what the art meant to the people performing them.

Burke also praised her co-hosts, saying Penn and Teller were “so amazing, so talented, so welcoming.” She called it more fun than any other show she had worked on, and described the chance to watch magicians pursue their dreams on television as part of what made it “such a feel-good show to work on.” Those are her personal impressions of the experience, not an independent evaluation of the production.

How the show’s premise shaped her role
As described in the interview, magicians compete to fool Penn and Teller. A performer who succeeds can earn the opportunity to open for the duo at their Las Vegas show. Burke’s hosting role connected that contest to the performers’ stories: she could introduce the acts, learn about the people behind them and share the audience’s response as the magic unfolded.

Burke followed Alyson Hannigan, whom the interview says had hosted since season three, beginning in 2016. The season 10 premiere was listed in that 2023 interview as October 27 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. That is a historical premiere listing, not a current schedule.
