Ben Cousins attended the 2021 Brownlow Medal with Kelley Fergus, identified by contemporaneous event coverage as his date. Reports described Fergus as a Western Australian FIFO worker and said she was understood to be managing director of Gourmet WA, but they did not confirm whether the two were a couple.
Who was Ben Cousins’ date?
PerthNow named Kelley Fergus as the woman who attended the Brownlow Medal with Cousins in a report published on 20 September 2021. The West Australian had already identified Fergus in its coverage of the event the previous day. PerthNow’s report and The West Australian’s event report provide the contemporaneous identification.
What did reports say about Kelley Fergus?
PerthNow described Fergus as a Western Australian FIFO worker and reported that she was understood to be managing director of Gourmet WA, which the outlet said opened in 2004. 7NEWS also described her as a WA-based FIFO worker. These are descriptions published in 2021; the reports do not establish her current employment or role.
The coverage did not confirm the nature of Fergus and Cousins’ relationship. PerthNow said its status had not been confirmed, and 7NEWS reported that it was not known whether they were a couple. Calling her his girlfriend or partner as an established fact would go beyond what those reports said.
