Bruce Murray, a key grip who worked behind the scenes on Home and Away and other television and film productions, had died by October 2024, according to PerthNow. The report described tributes from colleagues after his reported battle with stage-four oesophageal cancer. The coverage does not give his exact date of death.
Who was Bruce Murray?
Murray was a production crew member, not an on-screen actor on Home and Away. PerthNow reported that he worked as a key grip across Channel 7 and Channel 10, with more than 20 years in television and film.
A grip helps support camera and lighting work by setting up, operating and maintaining related equipment, according to 7NEWS. The outlet also reported that Murray’s work took him to varied locations, including beaches, underwater locations, vehicles, boats, rooftops and cliff faces.
What happened to Bruce Murray?
In a report published on 23 October 2023, 7NEWS said a fundraiser organized by people close to the production had made public Murray’s diagnosis of stage-four oesophageal cancer. The organizers said the cancer had spread to his bloodstream and bones; the reports do not provide medical records to independently confirm those details.
