March 2020: Public sightings and social media
Entertainment outlets linked the pair romantically in March 2020 after they traveled together to Cuba, de Armas’s hometown, and Costa Rica. Reports differed on the precise dates of their trips, so March is the clearest shared timeframe. Photos and reports of public affection made the relationship a subject of celebrity coverage.
De Armas also shared photographs of herself taken by Affleck on Instagram. His comment asking her to credit him became a widely repeated detail, but it was a playful public exchange, not a formal announcement from the couple. Us Weekly’s retrospective recounts the social-media moment.

The two were repeatedly photographed walking their dogs, getting coffee, and spending time together in Los Angeles during pandemic restrictions. Summer and late 2020: More public outings
Later coverage described outings involving Affleck’s children and family, as well as time with friends. Much of this account came from paparazzi photographs and anonymous sources, so it offers only a partial view of their private lives. ELLE’s November 2020 chronology gathered many of the public milestones before the breakup.
January 18, 2021: The breakup is reported
Entertainment Tonight reported on January 18, 2021, that the couple had split after just over a year of dating. The outlet cited an unnamed source who described the decision as mutual and amicable and said the two were at different places in their lives. Those were the source’s characterizations, not statements by Affleck or de Armas.

She also connected the experience to her decision to leave Los Angeles: “That’s one of the reasons why I left L.A. … It’s always the feeling of something that you don’t have, something missing. It’s a city that keeps you anxious.” Her comments explain how she experienced the attention and her move; they do not confirm that media scrutiny caused the breakup.
