The best swimsuit for a fuller seat is the one whose cut gives you the coverage you want and fits your body comfortably. Check the bottom’s stated rear coverage, rise and leg opening separately: “high-waisted” describes where it sits, not how much of your seat it covers. This guide draws on swimwear brand fit and coverage descriptions, not comparative wear testing.
Start with the coverage you want
Swimsuit coverage is a design choice, not something you can reliably infer from a product name or waist height. JOLYN, for example, separates bottoms into full, moderate and cheeky coverage categories in its coverage guide. Use a brand’s coverage description as a first filter, then check product photos and fit details for the specific style.
- Full coverage: Look for bottoms explicitly described as full coverage if you want the seat more covered.
- Moderate coverage: A middle option between full and cheeky; the exact amount varies by design.
- Cheeky: A cut intended to show more of the seat. It is not a full-coverage style.
These labels are useful within a brand’s own range, but the guides do not establish a standardized measurement scale for comparing coverage across brands.
Rise, leg opening and seat coverage are different
A high waist can provide more coverage around the stomach while still leaving much of the seat exposed. Rise and rear coverage are separate attributes, as are the height and shape of the leg opening. A Torrid listing for a high-waist, high-cut bottom, for example, identifies its rear coverage as cheeky. Aerie’s Swimsuit Fits 101 also distinguishes among high-waisted, high-cut and cheeky fits.

When comparing bottoms, look for separate details on where the waistband sits, how high the leg opening is and how much of the seat the cut is designed to cover. Don’t treat “high-waisted” or “high-cut” as a promise of full rear coverage.
Use sizing advice for the specific cut
Changing sizes may affect how a swimsuit fits, but it does not reliably change the design of its coverage. Advice differs by brand and style: Mayhem Swim’s size guide recommends sizing up for more seat coverage, while Andie explains that sizing up or down does not reliably make a cheeky cut cover more in its cheeky plus-size collection. Follow the guidance for the particular garment rather than assuming a larger size will turn a cheeky bottom into a full-coverage one.

Fit can also depend on whether the suit offers adjustable ties or straps, and on how its fabric and cut sit on your body. Check the brand’s measurements and return terms before ordering if you are between sizes or unsure about a style.

Bikini separates
A two-piece can make it easier to choose a top and bottom in different sizes when a brand sells them separately. Confirm that the specific collection offers separate sizing; it is not available in every assortment. For a coverage-first search, “full-coverage high-waisted bikini bottoms” is a useful starting phrase, but verify the product’s stated rear coverage rather than relying on “high-waisted” alone.

One-pieces
For a one-piece, check the brand’s size guidance and torso measurements as well as hip measurements. There is no universal torso-fit rule that applies across brands and designs, so use the garment’s own chart and fit notes.
Swim shorts and boy-short bottoms
Swim shorts or boy-short swim bottoms are alternatives to consider if you want more fabric over the seat. They are options to compare, not a guaranteed fit solution; check the specific product’s cut and coverage details.

- Is the rear coverage explicitly described as full, moderate or cheeky?
- Is the rise, leg-opening height or cut explained separately from coverage?
- Do the product photos show the back of the garment?
