Bhool Chuk Maaf gives its hero a clear predicament: Ranjan keeps returning to the haldi ceremony before his wedding to Titli. Whether the joke stays fresh is less clear. Critics have split over the film’s meandering build-up, humor and chemistry, though one review says its outcome compensates. The result is a time-loop comedy whose premise is more consistent than its critical reception.
What is Bhool Chuk Maaf about?
Written and directed by Karan Sharma, the 2025 film stars Rajkummar Rao as Ranjan and Wamiqa Gabbi as Titli, a couple preparing to marry. Ranjan has forgotten a vow to Lord Shiva, and the wedding events begin repeating around him.
The Central Board of Film Certification’s plot summary identifies the haldi ceremony as the point the day resets. Prime Video’s catalog describes Ranjan as stuck in a time loop on his wedding day, a broader description rather than the same specific reset point. The spiritual vow ties the loop to Ranjan’s actions, while the wedding preparations provide the film’s recurring setting.
Does the repeating premise keep the comedy fresh?
A time-loop comedy depends on variation: repeated events need to reveal something new, sharpen the joke or change how the protagonist responds. In this case, the wedding setting offers an obvious source of comic friction, but the critical question is whether the repetitions escalate rather than simply prolong the set-up.

The Times of India review describes the build-up as scattered and meandering, but says the outcome compensates. That judgment suggests a film whose route may feel uneven to some viewers even if its destination works for that reviewer. It is one critic’s assessment, not a guarantee that the ending will redeem the pacing for everyone.
What did critics think of the performances and humor?
The reviews raise reservations about both the comic execution and the central pairing. Hindustan Times faults the film for lacking chemistry and cohesive humor. The Indian Express headline calls it a “poor man’s Brahmastra,” while its summary compares the film’s blend to Ghat and Groundhog Day. Those are individual critical characterizations, not neutral descriptions of the film.

Rotten Tomatoes recorded a 27% Tomatometer from 11 critic reviews when accessed in 2026. That is a small critic sample, and both the count and score can change. It should be read as a snapshot of those reviews, not as an audience rating or a complete measure of how viewers respond.
Verdict: who might enjoy it?
Bhool Chuk Maaf is built around an accessible comic hook: a groom must confront the same wedding stretch again and again after forgetting a vow. The critical split points to the main trade-off. Some viewers may find the repetition and uneven build-up tiring; others may be more persuaded by the eventual payoff. The available evidence supports a divided critical response, not the claim that the film traps every viewer in the same way.
