Bench Life has an unusual workplace-comedy hook: three IT employees each want to be put on the corporate bench, though for different personal reasons. The premise creates room for workplace satire, but the reviewed critics find that familiar dramatic turns and slow pacing blunt its potential. Vaibhav’s Balu, however, gives the lighter scenes much of their comic spark.
What is Bench Life about?
The 2024 Telugu series follows Balu, Ravi and Meenakshi, employees at an IT company who each hope to be benched. Their different motivations give the show an offbeat starting point: instead of chasing a promotion or a dream job, its characters want time away from their usual work.
Sony LIV’s official listing identifies five episodes and names Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Vaibhav, Charan Peri, Ritika Singh, Aakanksha Singh, Nayan Sarika, Venkatesh Kakumanu and Tanikella Bharani in the cast. Apple TV India lists Manasa Sharma as director and writer, Mahesh Uppala as writer, and Niharika Konidela as producer. Its catalog gives episode runtimes of 39–43 minutes and identifies Telugu as the original audio.
Does the comedy work?
Vaibhav’s performance is the strongest reason to give the series a try if you are looking for an easygoing workplace watch. In her September 12, 2024 review for Scroll.in, Sruthi Ganapathy Raman finds that Vaibhav gets the best lines and delivers them effectively. His comic timing helps keep the show lively when it leans into sentiment rather than jokes.

The central premise also gives Bench Life an initially fresh angle on office life. Raman’s reservation is that the novelty fades: the writing settles into familiar dramatic conflicts, and episode endings lean on predictable turns. That gap between an inventive setup and conventional plotting is the main reason the show feels middling rather than distinctive.
How are the characters and pacing?
Raman sees Meenakshi’s filmmaker ambitions as a compelling strand of the story. By contrast, she finds Ravi’s marriage material repetitive and limiting. These are critical judgments about how the characters are written, not a measure of how viewers as a whole have responded.

Satya Pulagam’s review for ABP Desam, updated September 12, 2024, rates the series 3/5 and describes it as entertaining, with simple funny scenes. Pulagam also flags slow-and-steady pacing and some coarse language. The two reviews therefore point to a similar trade-off: the cast and lighter moments can entertain, while the story’s momentum and writing may test a viewer’s patience.
Who is Bench Life likely to suit?
It is a reasonable pick if you want a short Telugu series, enjoy comic performances, and do not need every workplace story to deliver sharp satire or brisk plotting. Viewers choosing what to watch can weigh the show against these specific points:
