Benson Boone’s “Mr Electric Blue” music video is a self-aware satire of fame and music-industry expectations, using theatrical gags to turn criticism of his image into part of the show. The official video listing is dated June 19, 2025, one day before the song and American Heart were released on June 20.
What happens in the video?
Tribeca describes the video as a satirical visual about fame and industry expectations. Its reported scenes put Boone in an exaggerated music-business world: ABC Audio describes a record executive noticing him do a backflip and turning him into a performer, a “discount jumpsuits” sign, and Boone working in a “Moonbeam Ice Cream” truck.
One label-office scene makes the joke explicit. The label representative says, “We need a new gimmick,” and Boone’s character replies, “You know I can’t do that.” ABC Audio reports this as scripted dialogue in the video, not as a statement about Boone’s real songwriting.
iHeartRadio notes that the video also pokes fun at negative comments, including accusations represented by shirts reading “inauthentic” and “one hit wonder.” Boone told iHeartRadio that he wrote the song for his father, whom he looked up to as a “superhero” when he was a child. That explanation comes from Boone; it does not, by itself, explain every visual in the video.

The dates differ depending on what you mean by “release.” The official Benson Boone YouTube listing dates the music video to June 19, 2025.
