Primal Survivor is not filmed by Hazen Audel alone. For the 2022 Primal Survivor: Escape The Amazon expedition, Audel described two primary camera operators, a dedicated sound recordist and a wider production team, alongside local people who helped the crew move, camp and protect equipment from the rain.
Who films Primal Survivor?
Audel travels with a production crew. In a DStv interview published April 25, 2022, he described two primary camera operators and a dedicated sound recordist for Escape The Amazon. He also named production roles including director of photography Ross Hamilton, technical assistants Tess Benjamin and Suzanne Bliss, aerial photographer Jahlani Clarence, and director Nat Sharman.
Those names document people involved in that expedition; they should not be treated as a complete credits list or a fixed crew roster for every season. National Geographic’s series page describes behind-the-scenes filming in extreme locations, while the production company’s Primal Survivor project page lists camera operators without providing a season-by-season technical inventory.
How many cameras are used?
Audel’s account establishes two primary camera operators, not an exact total number of cameras. A National Geographic France interview likewise discusses two operators and a larger team, but does not say that the production uses exactly two cameras. The available accounts do not identify camera models or give a complete equipment list.

What filming was like on the Amazon expedition
Heavy gear and long days
Audel described a 60-day journey covering 500 miles (805 km) for Escape The Amazon. He said the camera operators carried heavy equipment while following the expedition, then had to help establish camp after filming. Audel described one camera as weighing 60 pounds (27 kg); that is his account of the equipment on this expedition, not a published specification for all cameras used on the series.
Sound and weather protection
The crew included a dedicated sound recordist, Adam Laister. As Audel put it: “We have 2 primary camera operators that are carrying those cameras; we also have a person who’s super-dedicated to sound, so it’s not a silent film.” He also described the need to keep equipment dry: “They might be building shelters for the camera equipment, so it can stay out of the rain.” The interview does not identify a particular rain cover or other protective product.

Local support
Audel said local people helped with boat travel, pointed out safer places to camp and assisted with improvised shelters for camera equipment. His description shows the filming as a collaboration involving local logistical help, not simply a host and camera operators moving through the jungle on their own.
