The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony for the 2023 awards cycle took place on January 15, 2024, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, after being postponed from its usual September timing because of the Hollywood strikes. “Best dressed” was an editorial judgment, not an official Emmy award. Vogue’s gallery selected 18 stars; its separate red-carpet gallery captioned 125 looks. Those are counts of Vogue’s pages, not of everyone who attended.
For photos, see Vogue’s full red-carpet gallery, alongside Vogue’s best-dressed selection and Vanity Fair’s separate list. Below are standout looks and the details that distinguish them.
What made the red-carpet looks stand out?
The night offered contrasts in shape, color, texture and embellishment rather than one uniform look. The Associated Press described bright colors against a “sea of black”—a reporter’s visual impression, not a measured tally or a formal dress-code finding. Its red-carpet report highlighted several examples of how individual silhouettes and styling created variety.
Ayo Edebiri in Louis Vuitton
Edebiri wore a strapless custom Louis Vuitton gown with a sculptural, molded shape and an above-ankle hem. The strong silhouette made the gown distinctive without relying on a floor-length sweep. AP attributed Edebiri’s comment to E!: “We’re snatched and loving it.”

Hannah Waddingham in Marchesa
Waddingham wore a custom pale-green Marchesa look with a plunging neckline and sparkle across the fabric. Its color and surface treatment offered a bright counterpoint to the black looks noted by AP.
Quinta Brunson and Janelle James
Brunson wore Dior couture with a small belted accent, a restrained detail that shaped the look without dominating it. James paired a Rodarte look with Fred Leighton jewelry, bringing the styling into focus through the combination of dress and accessories.

Which designers appeared in Vogue’s photo gallery?
Vogue’s captions identify a range of designers across its full red-carpet gallery. These examples are useful starting points for browsing the photos; naming a designer does not imply that a custom or runway look is commercially available.
- Suki Waterhouse in Valentino
- Selena Gomez in Oscar de la Renta
- Aubrey Plaza in Loewe
- Riley Keough and Priscilla Presley in Chanel
- Ayo Edebiri in Louis Vuitton
Vogue’s 125-caption gallery is a broader photo record than its 18-person best-dressed selection. Neither count should be read as the total number of guests or outfits at the event.

How to read “best dressed” lists
There is no official Emmy honor for red-carpet fashion. Vogue’s selection was written by Christian Allaire, its Senior Fashion and Style Writer; Vanity Fair published its own list. Each reflects that publication’s editorial taste, not a shared or objective ranking. Readers looking for the full range of photos can use Vogue’s complete gallery, while readers comparing editorial picks can consult both publications’ selections.
The 2023 label refers to the Emmy awards cycle, not the ceremony date. The Television Academy’s 75th Emmy Awards nominations list provides official cycle context; contemporary red-carpet coverage appeared in January 2024, after the postponement.
