What is the best DJ mixer for vinyl? The right choice depends on how many turntables and other sources you need to connect, whether you mix records alone or use digital vinyl systems (DVS), and which controls suit your style. For a flexible analogue setup with USB and Traktor Scratch support, consider the Allen & Heath Xone:96; for four documented phono inputs and a Pioneer DVS workflow, consider the DJM-750MK2. The Rane SEVENTY-TWO is another scratch-oriented DVS option to investigate, but its current availability and comparative performance are not established here.

Three vinyl mixer options to compare

These are feature-based candidates, not a hands-on ranking: manufacturer specifications establish their connections and workflows, but do not show that one sounds better or feels better to use than another.

Mixer What the cited materials establish Could suit What to verify
Allen & Heath Xone:96 Allen & Heath describes it as a “6+2 Channel Analogue Mixer with Interface.” It has four main stereo input channels, phono as an input option on channels 1–4, dual USB connections, and manufacturer-stated Traktor Scratch certification. Allen & Heath product page; Xone:96 user guide. DJs seeking an analogue mixer with multiple source-routing options and USB connectivity. How the channel and input layout maps to your exact simultaneous sources, and whether its controls and footprint suit your setup.
Pioneer DJ DJM-750MK2 Pioneer DJ calls it a “4-channel performance DJ mixer”; its specification page lists four RCA phono inputs. Pioneer also describes using turntables with control media to control digital audio from a computer. Pioneer DJ product page; Pioneer DJ specifications. DJs who want multiple phono inputs and a documented route to Pioneer’s control-media workflow. Current software and control-media compatibility for your computer and intended DVS setup.
Rane SEVENTY-TWO Rane support material says it has two CD/phono RCA inputs and supports turntables with Serato control vinyl. Rane support FAQ. Scratch-oriented DJs considering a Serato DVS workflow. Current availability, regional support, and compatibility with your software and equipment; comparative performance is not established by the cited material.

How to choose a mixer for your turntables

Count phono inputs and channels separately

Start with the number of turntables you want connected at once, then account for other sources such as media players. A mixer’s channel count does not, by itself, tell you how many turntables you can connect: check the input types and routing for each channel. The Xone:96 guide identifies phono as an option on channels 1–4, while Pioneer lists four RCA phono inputs for the DJM-750MK2.

Decide whether you need DVS

For ordinary record playback, the key requirement is a compatible phono connection for the turntable. DVS is a different workflow: compatible control media and software let a turntable control digital audio. Pioneer describes using control media with the DJM-750MK2, and Rane documents support for Serato control vinyl on the SEVENTY-TWO. Control vinyl is not required to play ordinary records.

Choose controls for your mixing style

Compare the EQ and filter layout, crossfader, cueing controls, effects, and overall ergonomics against the way you mix. A scratch-focused set and a blend-focused set may call for different control preferences. Manufacturer feature descriptions can confirm what is present, but the cited materials do not establish independent comparisons of sound quality or fader feel. If possible, try the controls in person before deciding.

Check the complete signal chain

  • Confirm the turntable and cartridge connect appropriately to the mixer’s phono inputs.
  • If you plan to use DVS, confirm software, control-media, and operating-system compatibility for the exact mixer model.
  • Check that the mixer fits your desk and that its outputs match the home or club sound system you intend to use.
  • Verify current regional bundles and compatibility details with the manufacturer or seller before purchase.

What DJ mixer works with turntables?

A mixer works with a turntable for record playback when it has a suitable phono input and the connection is configured for that source. For the models compared here, the Xone:96 documentation identifies phono inputs on channels 1–4, the DJM-750MK2 specification page lists four RCA phono inputs, and Rane support lists two CD/phono RCA inputs on the SEVENTY-TWO. Match those inputs to the number of turntables you need connected, rather than relying on the channel count alone.

Can you use vinyl with a DVS mixer?

Yes. DVS support adds the option to use compatible control media and software to control digital audio; it does not replace ordinary record playback when the mixer has suitable phono inputs. The Xone:96 is described by Allen & Heath as Traktor Scratch certified, Pioneer documents a control-media workflow for the DJM-750MK2, and Rane describes Serato control-vinyl support for the SEVENTY-TWO. Check current compatibility for your specific computer, software, and equipment before relying on a DVS setup.
