There was no authoritative “best” ranking of Broadway shows for Fall 2024. A useful way to choose from that season is by what you wanted to see: a new musical or an established hit, a comedy or a serious drama, and a show suited to your audience. The Broadway League’s October 15, 2024 Broadway Bridges announcement offers a documented snapshot of 24 participating productions—not a complete season calendar or a quality ranking.
How to read a Fall 2024 Broadway shortlist
The Broadway League named 24 shows in its Fall 2024 Broadway Bridges cycle. That list is a concrete season snapshot, but it should not be mistaken for every Broadway production available throughout the season. Nor does participation indicate popularity or artistic merit. The recommendations below are editorial ways to sort the productions by form, tone, subject and newness.

The League’s announcement said Broadway Bridges offered $10 tickets to participating New York City public-school tenth graders. It reported 461 NYC public high schools served and 2,417 teachers and administrators registered. This was a restricted education-program offer, not a discount available to the general public. Jason Laks, then Interim President of The Broadway League, said the program creates an opportunity for students to experience live theatre and encourages them to become lifelong patrons and supporters of the arts.
Choose by the kind of show you wanted
For a new musical with a distinctive story hook
Swept Away was one of the fall’s documented new musical openings. Broadway.com’s Fall Preview described it as a story inspired by an 1884 shipwreck, using music associated with the Avett Brothers. The preview listed October 29, 2024, for previews and November 19 for opening at the Longacre Theatre. Those are historical announced dates, not current performance information. If a maritime survival story and contemporary folk-rock appealed to you, it was a natural new-production pick.

For dark comedy and familiar movie material
Death Becomes Her adapted Robert Zemeckis’ 1992 dark comedy as a musical, starring Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard. Broadway.com’s preview listed previews beginning October 23, 2024, and an opening November 21 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Its macabre comic premise and film connection made it a contrasting choice to the survival drama of Swept Away.
For established productions and familiar titles
The League’s list also included established productions and recognizable properties such as Aladdin, Chicago, Hadestown, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Lion King, Moulin Rouge! The Musical and Wicked. These titles made the slate useful to visitors who preferred a known story or an ongoing production over a new opening. The League’s list alone does not establish which was “best,” nor does it confirm each show’s exact run dates during the entire fall.

Fall 2024 has passed. If you are planning a Broadway visit now, do not rely on the historical opening dates above to establish whether a production is running. The Broadway League describes Broadway.org as its official information site; its live show pages provide changing performance dates, age advisories, and rush or lottery details. The League also directs ticket buyers to official theatre ticketing offices for tickets at different price points. Verify a show’s status and current ticket options through those official channels before making plans.
For historical context, the League’s $10 Broadway Bridges offer was for participating NYC public-school tenth graders, not a general public ticket deal. Do not infer Fall 2024 ticket prices or availability for the public from the program’s figures.
