The charter guest’s “interesting tool” was a UV blacklight. In the Season 12 premiere, he used it to inspect surfaces in his cabin and complained to chief stew Fraser Olender that the bedside switches were “disgustingly dirty.” The scene records the guest’s complaint—not an independent test showing that the switches were contaminated.
What did the guest bring, and what did he do with it?
After the charter guests retrieved their luggage and unpacked, the primary guest swept his UV blacklight over surfaces in his cabin, including the bed. Bravo’s June 2, 2025, report says he was mostly satisfied with what he saw until he checked the switches beside the bed. He told Fraser they were “disgustingly dirty” and had not been wiped down.
The guest summed up his method to Fraser: “I did blacklight.” Bravo’s account does not name the guest or identify the light’s brand, model, wavelength, or other technical specifications.
How did Fraser and Barbara respond?
Fraser offered to take care of the switches rather than have the guest clean them himself: “We can do that, as opposed to you doing it now.” Stew Barbara Kulaif agreed to address the issue.

In her confessional, Barbara said, “If I had the blacklight, I wouldn’t even know. Like, ‘Oh, is this germs or is it just dust?’” That is her uncertainty about what the light showed, not a technical finding. The scene does not establish that the switches had germs or that a blacklight can determine whether a surface is clean.
How this fits into the Season 12 premiere
The blacklight inspection was one of the first charter-service issues in the premiere. Separately, Bravo reported a luggage mix-up: the crew left the guests’ bags at the dock, but the bags were later delivered to the yacht. The luggage mistake was not the “interesting tool.”

Returning crew included Fraser Olender and Kyle Stillie; new team members included chef Lawrence Snowden, bosun Caio Poltronieri, deckhands Jess Theron and Damo Yorg, and stews Barbara Kulaif, Rainbeau de Roos, and Solène Favreau. The interview said the 75-minute premiere was scheduled for June 2, 2025.
