Yes. Bad Bunny appeared on Playboy’s first digital cover in July 2020, in a milestone contemporary coverage described as the first solo Playboy cover appearance by a man other than founder Hugh Hefner. It was a digital cover—not a new announcement or an established print issue.
What was the Bad Bunny Playboy cover?
Playboy unveiled the cover in July 2020 alongside a feature titled “Bad Bunny Is Not Playing God.” CNN reported two cover versions and described Bad Bunny as the first man to appear solo on a Playboy cover apart from Hugh Hefner. That distinction is specifically about a solo male cover appearance; it does not mean no men had ever appeared on Playboy covers in any capacity.
Photographer Stillz made the images in Miami. The styling included a gold Versace toga, a laurel crown, jewelry, elaborate nails and Playboy bunny imagery. The Miami Herald reported that Bad Bunny kept his clothes on; the visual references to Playboy do not mean he posed nude. CNN’s July 8, 2020 report and the Miami Herald’s July 9, 2020 coverage describe the cover and its imagery.
Why was the cover digital?
The format reflected Playboy’s 2020 publishing shift, rather than a separate printed Bad Bunny issue. In March, Playboy had announced that its Spring 2020 issue would be its final U.S. print publication for that year, citing pandemic-related production and supply-chain disruption. The Bad Bunny cover was presented digitally. A contemporary trade report reproduced the company’s announcement: XBIZ’s March 2020 report.

What did Bad Bunny discuss in the feature?
The interview covered sex and love, the reggaetón community, and respect for women. In a passage reproduced by the Miami Herald, Bad Bunny described sex as “a giant world” in which people are free to choose how and with whom they engage. He also criticized the way women are treated in the music industry and society, saying they deserve respect and equal treatment.
The feature appeared in the period surrounding the release of his second album, YHLQMDLG. That timing is context for the interview, not the cover’s central story. The Miami Herald’s account of the feature covers its themes and the album context.

Bad Bunny’s appearance marked a specific first in contemporary reports: a man other than Hefner appearing alone on a Playboy cover. It was also Playboy’s first digital cover, unveiled during a year when the magazine had halted U.S. print publication. Those distinctions explain why the cover was described as historic without implying that it was a print issue or that men had never appeared in other cover arrangements.
