BET CEO Scott Mills said in August 2025 that the Soul Train Awards and BET Hip-Hop Awards were suspended on BET’s linear television service. Their status has since diverged: BET announced that the Soul Train Awards are scheduled to return on November 27, 2026, while the available announcements do not establish a return date or distribution plan for the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
What BET announced in 2025
In August 2025, BET CEO Scott Mills told Billboard that “For BET linear, we have suspended the Soul Train and Hip-Hop award shows,” as reported by The FADER. The wording matters: it describes a suspension on BET’s linear TV service, not a confirmed permanent end to either franchise.

Mills also said, “They aren’t gone,” and described the decision as a matter of reimagining the shows for a changing media landscape. Those comments recorded BET’s position at the time; they do not, by themselves, specify a later broadcast plan.
Soul Train Awards: announced return in 2026
BET announced on September 3, 2026, that the Soul Train Awards are scheduled for Friday, November 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. BET Hip-Hop Awards: no return plan established
The BET Hip-Hop Awards were included in Mills’s 2025 statement about suspension on BET linear. The announcements cited here do not establish a new return date or distribution plan for the ceremony. Soul Train’s scheduled return should not be taken as confirmation that the Hip-Hop Awards will also return.

How the two awards shows differ
The franchises have separate histories: The FADER reports that the Soul Train Awards began in 1987 and the BET Hip-Hop Awards premiered in 2006; it also notes that Soul Train was skipped in 2024. Their current statuses should likewise be considered separately.
