¿Quién era Adán Manzano y qué ocurrió en Kenner?
Adán Manzano, de 27 años, era reportero y presentador de Telemundo Kansas City. Viajó a la zona de Nueva Orleans para cubrir el Super Bowl de 2025 y fue encontrado muerto el 5 de febrero en su habitación de hotel en Kenner, un suburbio de la ciudad. Así lo consignaron la Fiscalía de Jefferson Parish y Associated Press.
La cobertura de People en Español del 7 de febrero de 2025 señaló que la causa oficial de muerte aún no se había divulgado y que estaban pendientes exámenes. La información conocida entonces describía una investigación en curso, no una conclusión forense.
¿Por qué arrestaron a Danette Colbert?
La policía arrestó a Colbert el 7 de febrero de 2025. La nota inicial de People en Español informó que enfrentaba cargos de fraude y robo vinculados al uso de tarjetas de Manzano, y que la policía la había identificado como la mujer captada saliendo de la habitación del periodista.

La fiscalía sostuvo que Manzano conoció a Colbert en el French Quarter y que ella lo acompañó al hotel en Kenner. Según la explicación presentada por los fiscales, el alprazolam —el genérico de Xanax— combinado con alcohol lo dejó inconsciente e incapaz de moverse; la fiscalía dijo que murió por asfixia posicional al quedar boca abajo sobre una almohada.

Associated Press resumió la conclusión de la autopsia como una combinación de alcohol y Xanax. La explicación detallada sobre la secuencia de los hechos corresponde a lo que planteó la fiscalía; no debe confundirse con los cargos iniciales que se reportaron al momento del arresto.
¿Qué resolvió el jurado?
El 17 de septiembre de 2026, un jurado declaró a Colbert y a Rickey White culpables de asociación ilícita, según la Oficina del Fiscal de Distrito de Jefferson Parish. Colbert también fue declarada culpable de homicidio negligente, un cargo menor que el homicidio involuntario que buscaba la fiscalía.

White fue absuelto del cargo de homicidio involuntario. Por tanto, los resultados no fueron iguales para ambos acusados: los dos fueron condenados por asociación ilícita, pero solo Colbert recibió una condena relacionada con la muerte de Manzano.

El 28 de septiembre de 2026, la jueza Nancy Miller impuso a Colbert una pena total de 60 años: 50 años por asociación ilícita y 10 años por homicidio negligente.
