On the November 10, 2021 episode, host T.J. Lavin said she had broken one of the show’s rules and was no longer allowed to continue. Neither the announcement nor contemporaneous reports identified the specific rule.
What happened when Ashley Mitchell left?
During the episode, Lavin told viewers that Mitchell was no longer at headquarters and had been “deactivated.” He said she could not remain in the game for the rest of the season. The show’s announcement described a rule violation, not an elimination result. Us Weekly reported the announcement on November 10, 2021.

The episode recap placed the announcement after Mitchell’s Sapphire Cell won the daily challenge. She was absent when the team discussed whom to send into elimination, and Lavin explained her absence at the elimination. Hollywood Life’s November 11 recap describes that episode context.

The public explanation did not specify the rule or describe the incident in detail. Us Weekly reported that MTV offered no further comment at the time. The available contemporaneous accounts therefore establish why the show said Mitchell had to leave, but not exactly what rule she broke or the full sequence of events.

A 2026 TV Insider retrospective summarizes a later video in which Mitchell described drinking and arguing with Josh Martinez and said she had said things she should not have. That is context attributed to Mitchell’s later account; it is not the show’s official explanation or an independently verified account of everything that happened.
