The Crunchyroll anime at the center of the “next Solo Leveling” comparison is The Beginning After the End. Its animation is a reasonable point of criticism, but the available evidence does not establish that it is already costing the series viewers or preventing it from matching Solo Leveling’s success. That distinction matters: an animation critique is a judgment about what appears on screen; a claim about lost audience or prospects needs comparable performance evidence.
Which Crunchyroll anime is the headline about?
The Beginning After the End follows King Grey, who is reborn as Arthur Leywin on the magical continent of Dicathen. He brings memories of his former life into a new world, learns magic and tries to correct past mistakes. Crunchyroll’s series page provides the official synopsis and lists a 3.9 average rating from 170,000 ratings at the time it was crawled. That platform-wide figure is not a rating of animation alone and cannot show why viewers liked or disliked the show.
What is known about the anime’s production and release?
Crunchyroll News identifies Studio A-CAT as the animation studio, with Keitaro Motonaga directing, Takamitsu Kono handling series composition, Masami Sueoka designing the characters and Keiji Inai composing the music. The same report notes that the source manhwa is available digitally through Tapas and in print through Yen Press in the United States. Crunchyroll News’ February 27, 2025 report gives those credits and availability details.
Crunchyroll announced season 2 in June 2025, saying it would premiere in 2026 and stream on the service. Its announcement was followed by a March 2026 report setting the premiere for April 1, 2026. Crunchyroll News reported the date and streaming continuation; the platform’s episode listing shows “The King Begins Adventuring” released April 15, 2026. The episode page establishes that listing, not a broader claim about audience response.

Does the animation criticism prove the series is losing its chance?
No. The premise in the headline is an argument, not a conclusion established by the available evidence. The official material verifies the staff, release context and a platform rating, but it does not provide an objective animation-quality assessment, show that animation caused viewers to leave, or compare the two anime’s performance on a shared basis.
To make the criticism persuasive, a review would need to point to specific scenes and explain what is not working—for example, whether action is difficult to follow, movement feels limited, or visual choices weaken a dramatic moment. Those observations should be attributed to the reviewer or viewers making them. Without that scene-level support, “bad animation” remains an unsubstantiated label; without comparable audience evidence, “ruining its chance” overstates what can be concluded.
What would make a fair comparison with Solo Leveling?
Calling one series “the next” another is not a measurable result by itself. A careful comparison would examine the shows on common grounds rather than treating a similarity in genre or premise as proof of equal prospects.
- Animation and action readability: Compare how clearly movement and combat are staged, using particular sequences rather than a general impression.
- Adaptation and pacing: Look at what each anime changes, omits or compresses from its source and how those decisions affect the story.
- Character development: Consider how each series builds its lead and supporting cast, not only how powerful the protagonist becomes.
- Audience reach: Use comparable figures collected on the same basis and over comparable periods. A single platform rating does not measure reach or identify the cause of a rating.
The available figures do not establish a winner on those measures. They support describing The Beginning After the End as a Crunchyroll series with an ongoing adaptation, not declaring it either a successor to Solo Leveling or a failed contender.

Readers curious about how the anime handles Arthur’s story can turn to the original manhwa. Crunchyroll News reports digital availability through Tapas and US print availability through Yen Press in its February 2025 coverage. That is a route to the source material, not evidence that the adaptation’s animation is good or bad.
