Chris Lilley’s April 2025 teaser announced “Mr G is Back,” but it did not confirm a new Summer Heights High television series. Later coverage identified the character’s comeback as Mr G’s Room, a podcast.
What did Chris Lilley announce?
On 9 April 2025, Lilley posted teaser clips featuring Mr G, including a video in which the character gyrates on a medicine ball and adjusts his tie. PerthNow reported that the announcement read “Mr G is Back,” while noting that the format was not yet known. PerthNow’s report and The Standard’s contemporaneous coverage both make clear that the teaser did not specify how Mr G would return.
Was a new Summer Heights High TV series confirmed?
No. The teaser established a character comeback, not a television revival. By 6 May 2025, Guardian reviewer Luke Buckmaster was covering Mr G’s Room as a new podcast series featuring the character. The documented comeback is therefore an audio project; the cited reporting does not announce a new Summer Heights High TV series. The Guardian review identifies the podcast and its premise.
What is Mr G’s Room about?
The Guardian describes the fictional podcast as Mr G’s attempt to expose how he was edited and manipulated by the producers of Summer Heights High. In character, he introduces himself as a “high school drama teacher slash entertainment industry professional.” The show’s title and premise frame the project around Mr G’s account of his television past, rather than a confirmed return to the TV series format.

Who is Mr G?
Mr G, also identified as Greg Gregson, is the drama teacher character Lilley originated in Summer Heights High. PerthNow reports that the ABC series ran for one season in 2007. His reappearance in the podcast brings back that character; it does not by itself establish a continuation or revival of the original show.
Why is the character’s return controversial?
The Guardian review places Lilley’s past work within debate over blackface, brownface and yellowface, and criticizes his portrayal of Jonah. Those are the reviewer’s critical assessments, not neutral facts about audience consensus. The context matters when discussing a return connected to a series whose characters and performances have been the subject of criticism.
