On October 16, 2024, Asmongold apologized for comments about Palestinians and announced that he was stepping away from leadership at OTK and Starforge. In his video, “My Plans Moving Forward,” he described his life as “in shambles” and said he wanted to get himself in check. The announcement was a leadership step-back—not, at that point, a statement that he had fully left OTK.
What prompted the announcement?
Two days earlier, on October 14, Asmongold made comments about Palestinians during a Twitch stream. The remarks prompted backlash, and contemporary coverage reported that his zackrawrr Twitch account was temporarily suspended. On October 16, he posted an apology and outlined plans for what he wanted to change. PC Gamer’s October 16 account and Dexerto’s report that day covered the comments and response.
In the video, he said he needed to “get myself in check” and “fix my fucking life,” describing it as “in shambles.” These were his own words about his circumstances, not an independent assessment of his mental health. Insider Gaming’s coverage quoted his remarks and reported the announcement.
What did he say he would change?
Asmongold said he wanted to take accountability, address his living situation, and change the tone of his content. He also said he intended to stream less and make more YouTube videos. In describing the tone he hoped to adopt, he said he wanted to “laugh more with people rather than at people.” These were plans he announced; the video did not establish that the changes had already happened.

What did stepping back mean for OTK and Starforge?
Asmongold described his decision as stepping away from leadership at OTK and Starforge. He said he wanted the change for the organizations and for himself so he could become “a better version of myself.” His wording in October concerned leadership; it should not be read as confirmation that he had then ended every connection to OTK.
The organizations addressed the situation separately. Starforge said it had spoken with Asmongold and “mutually agreed to part ways,” while also rejecting discrimination, hatred, and violence. OTK’s statement, as reported by Dexerto, said he had stepped away from leadership and noted his stated desire to change his life and broaden his perspective. Those were distinct statements: Starforge described a mutual parting, while OTK addressed his leadership role.

How did he explain the decision later?
In subsequent remarks reported by Dexerto, Asmongold said sponsors had not driven his apology or step-back. He also said he had wanted a break from responsibilities for more than a year. That later explanation adds context to his decision, but it was not part of the October 16 video’s announcement.

Not in the October announcement as described at the time: he said he was stepping away from leadership. A later account says that on February 21, 2025, he described himself as no longer involved with OTK. That marks a later point in the timeline, rather than changing what he announced in October. The later account of his OTK departure provides that chronology.
