Spoilers: This guide covers the Nine Titans and their abilities through the anime’s Final Season Part 2, including character and power details. A “Titan shifter” is an inheritor who can transform; it is not a tenth Titan. The Nine inherited powers are the Founding, Attack, Colossal, Armored, Female, Beast, Cart, Jaw, and War Hammer Titans. Each has a distinct role and limitations, and some abilities depend on a particular inheritor or special conditions.
What are the Nine Titans?
The Nine Titans are inherited powers said to have originated when Ymir’s power was divided. They can be inherited only by Subjects of Ymir. According to the official anime glossary, a person who possesses one of these powers has a term of 13 years. That limit applies to Nine Titan inheritors, not to all Subjects of Ymir.
The glossary’s holder list reflects its coverage through Final Season Part 2, rather than a timeless roster: it names Eren for the Founding and Attack Titans, Armin for the Colossal, Reiner for the Armored, Annie for the Female, Zeke for the Beast, Pieck for the Cart, Falco for the Jaw, and Eren for the War Hammer.
What does each Titan shifter do?
| Titan | Core abilities | Strength and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Founding | Can govern other Titans and affect Subjects of Ymir’s memories and bodily structure. | Its scope is exceptional, but the glossary says royal blood is required to exercise its power. |
| Attack | Inheritors can see memories of prior and future inheritors; the Titan is associated with fighting for freedom across eras. | Its distinctive advantage is information and a connection across time. |
| Colossal | Stands 60 metres tall, can cause wide destruction when it transforms, and can emit hot steam by burning muscle. | Its size and destructive force come with slow movement. |
| Armored | Hard skin covers its body, providing high durability. | Its defensive nature suits a shielding and impact role. |
| Female | Can reproduce traits of other Nine Titans. | It offers adaptability; this description does not mean it can automatically copy every power without limits. |
| Beast | Its animal traits vary by inheritor. Zeke’s form is suited to long-range throwing; his spinal fluid can turn Subjects of Ymir into Pure Titans when triggered by his scream. | Its form and capabilities vary, and the spinal-fluid effect described here is specific to Zeke. |
| Cart | Its four-legged form has exceptional stamina for long missions and can carry different armaments suited to an operation. | It excels at endurance and equipment support. |
| Jaw | Its small body provides mobility, while powerful jaws and claws can break hardened material. | It combines speed and close-range penetration. |
| War Hammer | Can use hardening to create weapons, including a war hammer, a sword, and more complex weapons. | Its weapon versatility is offset by low endurance. |
How are the Attack and Founding Titans different?
The Attack Titan’s defining ability is its memory connection: inheritors can see memories of previous and future inheritors. The Founding Titan instead has power over other Titans and the memories and bodily structure of Subjects of Ymir. Its use, as described by the glossary, requires royal blood. The distinction is temporal information for the Attack Titan versus broad influence with an access condition for the Founding Titan.

Which Titan is strongest?
There is no single objective strongest Titan in the official descriptions. The answer changes with the task: the Colossal offers transformation-scale destruction, the Armored prioritizes durability, the Jaw is mobile and can break hardened defenses, and the Cart can sustain long missions. The Founding Titan has unusually broad influence but a royal-blood condition, while the War Hammer can form varied weapons but has low endurance.
A useful comparison asks what the situation demands rather than ranking all nine on one scale:
- Offense and range: Consider the Colossal’s transformation effects, Zeke’s throwing ability, and the Jaw’s close-range bite and claws.
- Defense: The Armored Titan emphasizes durability; the War Hammer can create weapons through hardening.
- Mobility and endurance: The Jaw favors mobility, while the Cart is built for stamina over long missions.
- Information and special access: The Attack Titan connects inheritors through memories; the Founding Titan’s power is subject to its royal-blood condition.
- Adaptability: The Female Titan can reproduce traits of other Nine Titans, while Beast Titan traits vary by bearer.
