Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film follows Sonny Hayes, once a promising Formula 1 driver, who returns to racing decades after a serious accident. His former teammate, Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), recruits him to help APXGP, a struggling fictional team. Hayes must work alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. Was it filmed at real Formula 1 races?
Yes. Apple says filming took place at actual Formula 1 events during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, including Spa-Francorchamps, Mexico City, Monza, Silverstone, the Hungaroring, Suzuka, Zandvoort, and Abu Dhabi. Apple also says Pitt and Idris drove real Formula 1 cars. In a Variety interview quoted by Apple, Pitt said, “I was told that we drove 6,000 miles in total in these cars.” That figure is Pitt’s reported recollection, not an independently verified production total. Is an Apple TV subscription also for live Formula 1?
