It follows three wildlife specialists on expeditions across six countries, where they search for endangered animals, film them in remote habitats and support conservation work.
What The Wild Ones is about
Apple describes the series as a field adventure focused on finding, filming and helping protect endangered wildlife. Its expeditions visit Malaysia, Mongolia, Armenia, Indonesia, Canada and Gabon, with each location connected to a featured species: the Malayan tiger, Gobi bear, Caucasian leopard, Javan rhino, North Atlantic right whale and Western lowland gorilla. Apple’s series page introduces the overall premise and the people involved.

The project was announced in 2023 under the working title Endangered Planet. That announcement described the intended subjects as species with fewer than 1,000 individuals left in the wild at the time; it is a historical description, not a current population count. Apple’s original announcement records that earlier title and framing.
Who leads the expeditions
- Aldo Kane is the expedition lead and a former Royal Marines Commando.
- Declan Burley is the wildlife and camera-trap expert.
- Vianet Djenguet is an ecological storyteller and wildlife cinematographer.
Offspring Films produced the series. Alex Williamson and Isla Robertson are executive producers, according to Apple’s series materials.
#1 Best Overall
How the team filmed wildlife in remote places
Apple TV Press said the crew deployed more than 350 custom-built remote cameras, along with thermal drones, wearable underwater tags and AI-powered imaging technology. The range of tools points to a method built around observing animals in habitats that are difficult for a conventional camera crew to reach, including underwater environments and areas where unobtrusive remote recording matters. Apple’s June 5, 2025 trailer announcement describes the equipment and the series’ conservation claims.
What conservation outcomes Apple reports
Apple says the team’s discoveries contributed to identifying a new individual rhino, protecting a new litter of tiger cubs and advancing anti-poaching efforts. These are outcomes reported by Apple in its press materials; the announcement does not present them as independently audited impact findings. The distinction matters: the series documents fieldwork and conservation activity, while the scale and lasting effect of those contributions should not be inferred beyond what Apple states.

Subscription price and trial terms can vary by location and change over time, so check the listing for your country before subscribing. The US listing identifies English audio, multiple subtitle options, closed captions and audio description. View the US Apple TV catalog listing.
Apple lists a range of supported screens, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, smart TVs, Roku, Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Apple TV 4K is also supported, but it is an optional streaming device rather than a requirement; the official series page offers a “Watch on Apple TV” route. Apple TV 4K product information describes the dedicated device.
