MacDowell has described blowouts as an occasional event look; in everyday life, she prefers to let her curls be themselves.
What changed at the April 2025 event
MacDowell wore a smooth, shaped blowout at the Hallmark Channel’s The Way Home season 3 Emmy FYC screening and panel in Los Angeles. The change was striking because she is widely associated with her silver curls, but the reporting describes a styled look for an appearance—not a decision to abandon her natural texture. NewBeauty reported the event and spoke with Francis.
How Marcus Francis styled the blowout
Francis told NewBeauty that he used L’Oréal Tecni.Art Liss Control and Transformer Lotion on MacDowell’s damp hair, then blow-dried it and used an iron. He applied a small amount of Liss Control to seal the ends and finished with Tecni.Art Infinium 3 hairspray to hold the texture and shape.
That is Francis’s account of the products and sequence used for this event, not a tested tutorial or a guarantee that the same routine will produce the same result on other hair. The report does not identify specific dryer or iron models.

Did Andie MacDowell dye her hair?
Francis said the apparent change in shade was caused by the way straight hair reflects light, which made darker pieces at the nape more noticeable. He explained: “The light reflects on straight hair differently, so it picked up on all those pieces at the nape that haven’t turned silver yet.” That is his explanation of the appearance, rather than an independent color analysis; the reporting does not say she dyed her hair for the event.
Why the blowout did not mean she was done with curls
In a June 2024 Vogue interview, MacDowell said she enjoys having her hair blown out for events but would not choose that look for everyday life. She said, “I look forward to washing my hair and just having it be its curly self and just letting it do whatever it wants.”

She has also described the effect of embracing her curls on other women: “I have people all the time come up to me and say, ‘You helped me like my hair!’” Her comments put the blowout in context: a change in styling for an occasion, not a rejection of her natural hair.

MacDowell wore another sleek blow-dry at Cannes on May 18, 2026, for a screening of Guillaume Canet’s Karma at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. British Vogue described that look as voluminous, with softly waved ends and airy volume at the roots. It was a separate appearance, more than a year after the Los Angeles screening.
