Amanda Seyfried reportedly said she wore a prosthetic buttocks covering while filming The Testament of Ann Lee. Parade attributed the disclosure to Seyfried’s February 25, 2026, appearance on BBC Radio 2’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, and reported that the prosthetic was not visible in the scene.
What prosthetic did Amanda Seyfried say she wore?
Parade reported that Seyfried said she wore a prosthetic buttocks covering for a scene in The Testament of Ann Lee. As Parade quoted her: “This movie, it needed to be graphic, so, like, I had a prosthetic butthole.” She reportedly added that the prosthetic could not be seen in the scene: “You cannot see my butthole in [the scene], but I swear there is a prosthetic butthole there.” When asked why it was there, her reported answer was: “Just in case!” (Parade, February 26, 2026.)
Why did she wear it if viewers could not see it?
In the account Parade published, Seyfried’s explanation was that the film needed to be graphic. She joked that the prosthetic was present “Just in case!” The report does not give further technical details about how the prosthetic was made or used, so it does not establish a specific product or production technique.
What else did Seyfried reportedly say about filming?
Parade also quoted Seyfried discussing the film’s staged nudity. She reportedly said, “I was pregnant and naked but I wasn’t naked at all,” and described standing in front of a burning building wearing “just a merkin,” adding, “I felt so free.” These are quotations reproduced by Parade from the BBC Radio 2 appearance, not independently reviewed audio.

How does the prosthetic detail fit the film?
Searchlight’s official materials identify Seyfried as the star of The Testament of Ann Lee, a period drama about Shaker leader Ann Lee that uses music and movement to present her story (Searchlight Pictures). The studio’s production notes describe a historical setting spanning pre-industrial Manchester and pre-Revolutionary America. They also discuss Seyfried’s layered, restrictive costumes and costume designer Małgorzata “Gosia” Karpiuk’s hand-made garments (Searchlight Pictures production notes).
In an interview with The Credits, Karpiuk said she had six weeks to make costumes and that the production shot for 34 days; she also discussed adapting garments for movement (The Credits). Those details describe wardrobe and the production schedule, not Seyfried’s prosthetic.

What is confirmed—and what is not?
The specific prosthetic detail comes from Parade’s account of Seyfried’s February 25, 2026, BBC Radio 2 appearance, published the next day. The BBC program page and linked Instagram clip were not available for independent review, and Searchlight’s official film materials establish the production context rather than corroborating the prosthetic. The clearest distinction is between what Seyfried reportedly wore while filming and what appears in the finished scene: according to Parade, the prosthetic was not visible.
