Amazon Prime Video’s live-action Like a Dragon: Yakuza premiered in October 2024, so October 24 is a past release date, not an upcoming launch. Amazon Japan lists the first three episodes for October 25, 2024, while a localized Prime Video catalog displays October 24; the sources do not explain the one-day difference.
When did Like a Dragon: Yakuza premiere?
The localized Prime Video catalog displays October 24, 2024, for the first episodes and October 31 for the remaining episodes. Amazon Japan’s official announcement instead schedules three episodes for October 25 and three for November 1, 2024. These are the dates shown in those respective sources; neither establishes a single universal date or explains the one-day discrepancy. Prime Video’s localized catalog and Amazon Japan’s announcement provide the two schedules.
What is the series about?
Amazon describes the six-episode production as an original-scripted crime suspense action drama based on SEGA’s Yakuza game series. Its story follows Kazuma Kiryu and other characters in Kamurocho across two timelines, 1995 and 2005. Ryoma Takeuchi stars as Kiryu; Masaharu Take and Kengo Takimoto are credited as series directors. Amazon Japan’s series announcement and credits and the official Prime Video trailer description identify the premise and creative credits.
How was it released internationally?
Amazon Japan’s 2024 announcement said subtitles and dubbed versions would be available in more than 30 languages, with distribution planned across more than 240 countries and territories. That figure describes announced distribution reach, not viewership or the number of people who watched the series. The announcement does not establish audience or performance figures.

How does the show relate to the games?
The show is based on the franchise but uses an original script, so it should not be treated as a scene-for-scene retelling of a game. Its six-episode television format follows Kiryu and other characters through the two Kamurocho timelines.
For viewers curious about the source franchise, SEGA describes Yakuza Kiwami as based on the original Yakuza game. SEGA’s release concerns a Nintendo Switch download card sold through participating retailers and shops; it is optional context for exploring the games, not a companion required to understand the series. SEGA’s official release describes the game and the drama.
