Naruto Uzumaki’s techniques cannot be ranked by exact appearance totals: the available reference sources do not count how often he uses each move. This is a rough, qualitative ranking within the main Naruto manga story, with related variants grouped together. It puts situational techniques toward the low-use end and the Shadow Clone Technique and Rasengan family at the high-use end; close placements are not objective measurements.
How to read this ranking
This ranking covers Naruto’s main manga story, not anime filler, films, games, or every later-media appearance. Technique catalogues can mix entries from different continuities, including anime-only material, so a broad inventory is not automatically a manga-only list. The placements below compare recurring patterns, whether an entry is a standalone move or an application of one, and whether it is routine combat use or situation-specific.

Because no audited use counts are available, the lower and middle tiers are deliberately broad. The order of techniques within a tier is flexible; it should not be read as a count-based ranking.
Least-used: rare and situation-specific techniques
Specialized sealing and elemental applications
Special-purpose techniques belong near the low-use end when they appear in a narrow context rather than forming part of Naruto’s routine combat vocabulary. This is a category, not a claim that every named sealing or elemental move can be assigned a verified position: the sources do not establish exact relative counts, and individual candidates should be checked against the manga before being included in a definitive inventory.

One-off or narrowly contextual moves
A technique used for a particular event or tactical need is less representative of Naruto’s regular fighting style than a move he returns to across situations. Such entries are best treated as rare applications rather than ranked against one another with false precision.
Occasional utility and support
Transformation
Transformation is a utility option rather than the central pattern of Naruto’s combat. It fits above one-off techniques but below the tools he repeatedly builds into fights. The reviewed references do not support a precise count or a firm comparison with summoning.
Rank #2
Summoning and other less-repeated tools
Summoning and other support techniques can matter greatly in the circumstances where Naruto uses them, but situational importance is not the same as frequency. They sit in this occasional-use tier rather than among the techniques that define his recurring combat approach.
Recurring combat toolkit
Taijutsu combinations
Naruto repeatedly uses close-range attacks and combinations as part of a broader fight, often alongside clones. It is more useful to describe this as a recurring combat pattern than to treat every combination as a separate, consistently countable technique.

Rank #3
Chakra-enhanced attacks and clone-assisted tactics
Chakra-enhanced strikes and coordinated attacks add options to that toolkit. Their use can overlap with other entries: a clone may create an opening, distract an opponent, or help coordinate an attack. Those are applications of a recurring strategy, not necessarily independent techniques with cleanly separable appearance counts.
High-use tier: the Rasengan family
Rasengan and its recognizable size, chakra, and nature transformations form one of Naruto’s most recurring signature approaches. The official Naruto site describes Rasengan as compressed, rotating chakra formed into a sphere and lists Naruto as a wielder (official Rasengan entry, May 28, 2024). Another official feature describes how Naruto honed and evolved the technique through training and battles (Minato Column 5: Inheriting Minato’s Ninjutsu: Completion and Evolution).
Rank #4
Grouping the family avoids implying that every variation can be counted consistently as either a wholly separate move or another use of Rasengan. The evidence supports its prominence, not an exact rank for each variant.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Most-used tier: Shadow Clone Technique and its applications
The Shadow Clone Technique belongs at the high-use end because it functions as a platform for much of Naruto’s fighting: clones support feints, coordination, pressure, and training. Technique references describe its importance but do not provide a complete count of Naruto’s appearances using it (Narutopedia’s Shadow Clone Technique entry).

- Viz Media
- The world’s most popular ninja comic
- Naruto is a young shinobi with an incorrigible knack for mischief.
That flexibility is why a flat inventory can mislead. A clone-assisted attack may involve the Shadow Clone Technique as well as another move; counting each combination as a wholly separate technique would make comparisons arbitrary. The catalogue also helps identify techniques and continuity labels, but it is not a tally of use frequency (Naruto character technique catalogue). A separate profile’s compiled technique total likewise counts listed techniques, not appearances (NarutoHQ character profile).
Quick Recap
What the ranking can—and cannot—show
- Useful conclusion: Shadow clones and the Rasengan family best explain Naruto’s recurring combat identity.
- Less certain: Exact placements among rare techniques, support tools, and individual variants are not established by appearance data.
- Out of scope: Anime-only moves and techniques from films, games, or later media are not folded into this manga-focused ranking.
- Not a statistic: No exact use totals or chapter counts are claimed.
